Debian - servar
Debian - router
OSX - laptop
Win2k - desktop/gametop
Win2k advanced servar - servar/job stealing plot

I want to learn openBSD.... i hear it's secure
... to run as a firewall.

edit: i voted for OSX, it looked lonely and it's what I'm posting off of right now. Linux != desktop OS
The day that mom and pop are using linux to make spreadsheets and xpowerpoint presentations is the day that me and all of geek-kind becomes obsolete.... the day that my (henceforth suspected) slavery is confirmed.

.... the day that the clean cut windows MCSE that went to cram college takes my job and the day that computers stop being fun.

Does netware even have a windowing system? Is it compatible with other programs aside from specifically Netware ones?

since you can only pick one, that means generally you would pick whatever you use the most, and while netware is definitely still alive, its not much of a desktop or end-user os

Yes, but does it even matter? Since 5.x Netware has shipped with XFree86, it's pretty funny actually, the bootup even looks like RedHat's init scripts also.

Every time I see a poll like this I really have to wonder . . . would the access logs match up with the poll?

We can only vote once, I wonder how many people posted their linux distro sitting in the abyss of dual booting while they were in windows.

I voted FreeBSD while logged in on my Suse machine, does that count
Actually I run the below OS's with no dual booting, gets confusing sometimes
Win98
Win2K
WinXP
Suse 8.0
RedHat 7.3
FreeBSD 5.0 (SMP is still screwed up)

I wonder how many people posted their linux distro sitting in the abyss of dual booting while they were in windows.

So? I used to dualboot for 1 program and I would browse while in Windows sometimes, but that doesn't mean Windows is my main OS. Luckily I found a Linux replacement for that app and am now Windows free, I backed up and removed that partition and havn't had to reboot in over a month.

Maybe if someone could do a poll of people registered rigs, seeing what OS people have registered there might give a more realistic impression of things.

Also I have Linux on 5 machines at home and Windows on 1, should I get to vote 6 times?

Yeah there is a loadable gui, but you need some horsepower under the hood to run it quickly. My server is run off a pentium II 450 with 256 megs ram and honestly its quite slow. Not that I would wanna use the gui anyway...Netware has some great tools that allow you to remotely manage any server on the network that are far better than the GUI.

As far as I know there aren't many program written for the netware gui...the only things novell packages in there are some administration tools. The GUI really hasn't caught on...its just there probably as a marketing tool...yeah our server has a GUI too!!! Most netware program are written for the comand line interface at the server console in the form of .NLM files (netware loadable modules) e.g load monitor.nlm, load dhcpsrvr.nlm etc...
