No, I wouldn't want to have the tip of my finger cut off.

There are ways to prevent cats from scratching your furnitures.

Only if you do it at home with a pqir of rusty pliers.
Do you want your fingernails ripped out?The cat has a capacity to suffer so I would say no.

No.

Cats have claws. Cats need claws. Doesn't matter if it's an indoor cat or not; you can stop a cat from clawing things without declawing it.

Declawing a cat because it claws stuff is the equivalent to sending an 8-year-old to military school because it threw a temper tantrum. It basically means you're taking the lazy way out. Be a better owner.

No, and no. They're both nasty operations. The vet I used to work for refused to do tail/ear docking.

Yep. The declawed cats i've encountered have been just as happy as the clawed cats.

However there are certain breeds that run the risk of requiring tail/ear docking because of inherited "features". (basically they've been bred for birth defects because they look good) I hope your vet would do them when required to keep the dog healthy.

What breeds are you referring to?

My kitten has her claws but thinking of all the declawed cats I had chance to live with, none of them had any behavioral problems... they were fun & loving cats...

Also, one thing pisses me off, A LOT.

I am an animal lover myself and I see all these other animal lovers. Well, when some cat owner says that he/she is gonna get his/her cat declawed, they start treating him like a criminal, telling him that he shouldn't have adopted a cat, he is cruel, etc. etc... I realize it may not be the best thing to do to cats, but do not treat those people like criminals. They adopted an animal that was going to die in a shelter. So disrespecting them like that really pisses me off.

Both cats in my house are declawed. If/when I have any other cats, they will also be declawed.

Not sure, as I'm not a dog person. I know one of them is a breed notorious for a scrunched-up face which can actually cause breathing problems for the poor dog.

You make no sense. Amputation = surgery, removel of an organ.

Heh, I seriously have no clue, and I'll probably never find out. You'll have to ask a dog enthusiast.

Point is though that purebreeds can have serious problems.

i cant remember what book it was...
but there was a story about a dog that didnt have a tail and had to fight all the time since other dogs couldnt tell if it was being agressive to them. i think it was a vonnegut book.
i voted no.

anyways, i love cats. my cat is declawed. when i saw him actually climbing on my drapes and when he jumped on my back and scratched me all the way down. i said, sorry bud. your claws are going.
hes a perfectly fine and healthy cat. hes obviously not too upset w/ me because hes in my lap every night.
i voted only if inside.

i had it done when he was young when i got him fixed. he never leaves the house. he still has his back claws of course, so he can rabbit kick, and he can rabbit kick hard too.
