So, what speakers did you end up getting?

The room is medium sized, about 14' x 10', and primary function will be watching movies/TV, with some music but that won't be the primary use. Clarity is the most important thing to me, since I live in a condo, I can't go too HAM with the bass (I have the entire floor to myself, just have upstairs/downstairs neighbors).

That $1,000 package from SVS looks like a really good option, although it sounded like someone was ragging slightly on the speaker quality. It looks like I'm sold on either the SVS or the Rythmik LV12R for the sub. Now I just need to decide on the actual speaker config. Is the SVS Sub and two SVS Prime towers a great option, or would I be better off with 5 prime satellites and the SVS sub package?

ended up getting JTR Triple 12's for my mains (LCR) and JTR Triple 8's for my 2 surrounds. my subs are 2 JTR captivators. definitely way over the budget you have though, but so are the klipsch rf72 series that i mentioned.

i ended up piecing it together though. got the subs first because i found a great deal on 2 of them. then i ended up getting he 3 mains for the same reason. then a couple months later i got the surrounds because i found a great deal on them as well. i bought all of my speakers 2nd hand and saved probably $4k off the price i would have paid for them new. i actually drove 4 hours each way to pick up my surrounds. i got the pair for $600, whereas brand new they were $800 a piece. drove about 2 hours each way to pick up my subs (and hung out with a few audiophiles for a couple hours as well, guys that are way over my level of knowledge in this stuff, including anubis from these forums).

i was more just saying i'd recommend listening to them and doing as much research as possible before you go out and just drop money on the speakers. i was set on the klipsch for probably a month or so. then i found someone on AVS forums who had literally the setup i wanted and he let me come over and listen to them. and i came out very unimpressed. then i took a step back and started to do more and more research and just slow my process down, and ended up with one of the best HT systems i could possibly own. it completely blows the klipsch system out of the water.

you should see Andrews space now. its even better. New PJ, blacked out the ceiling, has an AT screen (not sure he had it when you were there), new mains, new couch riser and I believe it is now 16 18" subs in that space. 4 dual opposed boxes behind the screen, a dual front firing box on each side wall and 2 more dual front firing boxes behind his seats (1 behind each row)

We were playing One off the "Through The Never" Blu-ray at +15 over ref last time I was there, it was amazing

lol holy shit. did he rearrange his setup? i don't see how all of that could fit in that space he had it when i was there. when i was there i almost felt i was too close to the screen, and he didn't have the AT screen so i'd think if it was in the same place, it would mean the screen had to move even more forward and with speakers behind the seats.

and with 16 subs? hah damn.

i don't think i could have been in there at +15 without ear plugs. that is insane! i can barely get over reference in my system.

no its still the same, he pulled the screen out like 2-3 feet to do the AT, both couch sections now face the screen, one was along the wall when you were there

he may have an updated pic in here
