6 speed manual is an option.

Aren't you the same person who likes the looks of the Aztek and the Subaru Baja?
Hmmmmm - not sure what to say to this. The interior is quite handsome, actually, though there are an awful lot of small buttons on the stereo and HVAC controls. The exterior is a bit dowdy and overly plain given the car's performance, and what worries me is that I expect Pontiac may get carried away with trying to dress the car up - I find some of the basic shapes of modern Pontiacs attractive, but they always seem to mess them up with too-bold detailing. At least they have stopped using plastic cladding (per Bob Lutz).

Yes, but they are new designs and don't have a legacy. When I think of GTO I don't think of a friggin' sedan.

Considering that the GTO is more for the 1/4 mile than for the road course, an automatic is the natural choice. Automatics are generally better for drag racing.Originally posted by: BDawg

Hey, all I know is Pontiac's track record with auto only "performance" cars.

Fair enough, but I would not call this two-door design a sedan; it is more like a large coupe (like the original). IMO this is a legitimate use of the GTO name - obviously in the 21st century nobody will make a car as crude as the original Goat, nor would most buyers want such a car. At least (unlike, say, the godawful Monte Carlo) this car is a high-powered V-8 RWD car with available manual.
That's what pisses me off about car designs today. They all look the same.
Anyone that tries something different (Aztech, Baja, PT Cruiser, etc) gets shunned.
Bleh! It's still ugly. I don't care what engine they put in it, I wouldn't buy it.

I don't disagree with you that car designs are pretty homogenous nowadays, but I would not say all different designs are "shunned." The PT Cruiser (which I love) is Chrysler's best-selling car, and the New Beetle and Mini Cooper have been big sellers as well. The Aztek is a monstrosity in my eyes (and apparently most other people's), and was rather overpriced on its introduction, which I think accounts for its eye-wateringly poor sales. The Baja is strange but purpose-built, and I imagine highly individualistic Subaru buyers will embrace it.

What the hell do you think the original was? What do you think ALL musclecars were? They were coupe versions of sedans. They weren't low slung sports cars, they weren't mid engined supercars, they were coupes.

But back then, not all sedans looked the same. NOTHING looked like a GTO.
You can call the body style anything you want. I call it ugly.

You can "back then" all you want... but I was born in 1984, and when I look at a book of old cars, they all look damned similar. What would you like GM to do? Cover it in barnacles, gills, and fins like other Pontiacs? Cars of every era look the same as other cars of the same era. That's the way fashion works.
Another perfect example of nostalgia creating a delusioned opinion. I can easily spot the difference between the GTO, Monte Carlo, Accord, CTS, Camry, etc, and I'm sure quite a few others can as well. Why? Because I know what to look for. Most musclecars of your era look the same to me, but I'm sure you could point out the various nuances of the different models with ease. To you they appear vastly different.Originally posted by: Electric Amish
Similar? How did a GTO look like a Camaro, Mustang, Chevelle, Roadrunner, Charger, etc? They were all kinda square looking. You see any of those cars you know immediately what it is. You see this new GTO on the road and you don't know. Could be a GTO. Could be a Monte Carlo. Could be a Cadillac.

Cause Auto's are faster on the dragstrip and in street racing when powered by Tigers... everyone with a mechanical I.Q. of 10 or higher knows thatOriginally posted by: BDawg

If you think the new GTO looks like the current Monte Carlo which also looks like any current Caddy, well then hate to be offensive then you really do not have an eye for cars.
To say this Monaro/New GTO
Looks like this Monte Carlo (just snagged one from their fan site)
Or even like this Caddy CTS
To me, the GTO looks like the design team at BMW and Honda got together to draw it up and allowed some good ole American engine power to be introduced.
I love it.
I wouldn't mind getting it, however I am a Grand Prix guy and I may have to keep with that in the future; something about a full size car I like.
