Have you ever even seen a newer Monte Carlo? The rear end, even though I don't like it much, as pretty unique. Well, it does kinda resemble some of the older Caddy's, but compared to current vehicles I can't think of anything else it resembles.

Monte Carlo Rear

Monaro/GTO Rear

Hard to see in that guy's picture, maybe need to find a better one, but the Monte Carlo has a very blocky and angular rear end. The GTO, at least to me, is nothing but curves.

I just don't see how they would be similar. Two different design teams half a world apart.

To me, the only thing that differentiates the MC is the lights. If you put the GTO lights on the MC they would look the same.

Camaro
GTO

If they had the same headlights they would look almost identical, except for the larger size of the GTO.

Now look at these modern sportscars:

Supra

"NOTHING looked like a GTO."

Tempest

As far as this new one, I think it holds true to the original design concept of the GTO, take a normal practical mid-sized car, and stuff the biggest baddest motor you could find in it.

As far as looks, I think the Holden looks ok, with a well-done going over it could be a sweet looking Pontiac. Over the years Pontiac has probably been the most daring, styling-wise, of the GM divisions, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I don't think the GTO will get a 400HP engine. I think it'll be 350HP. The 2004 Cadillac CTS high performance edition is supposed to get the next generation, 400HP LS6. That way, the 350HP GTO will be priced at $30,000, and the CTS-V will be $37,000.

Nothing like making you choose between ugly and fast and pretty and less fast.

Personally I am not sure the GTO will come with 400HP stock either.

Most folks think that in no way will GM want something to compete with the 'Vette. So, it will probably be de-tuned to something like 360-380HP or a tad less. However, with a few mods (different PCM flash) would be up to 400HP then even above that with additional mods (CAT back exhaust, less restrictive air filter).

Personal opinion there.
