btw... please please please tell me there's at least one other person in this forum who knows that there are only 2 rules to racking 8-ball. the 8-ball goes in the middle, one stripe and one solid in the bottom corners.... there's NO SUCH RULE as the balls have to be alternating stripe solid strip solid etc... annoys the crap out of me and i eventually have to show people at the damn billiards website.
rules must have changed then. When I played 15 years ago, every billiard book I ever read dictated alternating solid/stripes on the edge of the rack, with solids at the corners. Even the tournaments I played in had that as a rule.btw... please please please tell me there's at least one other person in this forum who knows that there are only 2 rules to racking 8-ball. the 8-ball goes in the middle, one stripe and one solid in the bottom corners.... there's NO SUCH RULE as the balls have to be alternating stripe solid strip solid etc... annoys the crap out of me and i eventually have to show people at the damn billiards website.

I don't chalk that often (nor have I played in a long time).
As far as chalking the edge, the edge *definitely* comes into play for English shots. That's precisely when miscues happen.

True. Many people don't know this either.
