Alright, well I've recently set up a new system for myself and finally got everything running fine, except one thing really: the hard drive.
Here's my system:
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
256mb cas2.5 pc2100 ram (768mb on tuesday)
Shuttle AK31 v3.1
LG 16x CDRW
Western Digital 100gb 7200rpm HDD (WD1000BB)
Leadtek Geforce 4 ti 4400
Creative Labs SB Audigy OEM
SMC NIC
Aopen 56k v92 modem
Well, what can I say.. installing windows took a long time, everything seems a bit more sluggish then it should be. So I ran some benchmarks, they mostly cap transfer rates around 3.5mb/sec, which is just around what might be seen using PIO Mode.
Sure enough, the IDE controller which my hard drive is using reports that it is using PIO Mode (Use DMA if available, but it's not)
What should I do? Can i force DMA? might it be a cabling problem? I'm slightly stumped about this all, any help would be appreciated.
