POP Antispam gateway

I have a friend with a small company with 1 2k3 server and about 25 XP clients.

Their email is hosted by a small company like dixiesys, and all of the xp clients connect to their email using POP3.

Now, I'm looking for something to run on their in-office server to act as a spam gateway/message store. But it must still connect to the POP3 mail provider to get messages.

So, I would like all of the clients connecting to this spam filter on the server, which pulls mail from the pop mail provider, deleting spam while doing so.

All the solutions like brightmail, etc seem to want target office that actually have an in-house mail server or use exchange. This is not what they are asking for.

Also, a few of the clients have Norton Antispam, but it sucks, the users suck, so it doesn't work well, and is a pain to manage multiple copies.

When your friend's company gets frustrated with POP3 mail service, have them look at Microsoft Small Busines Server 2003. With an integrated Exchange Server, there's built-in SPAM filtering at the server. You can also easily use free Spammer blocklists and can implement Sender ID filtering with a couple of mouse-clicks.

You also put antivirus at the Server, to stop malware before it gets to the client computers. It's reliable, easy to use, and cheap. It's almost impossible to lose emails, since the Server automatically stores deleted emails for the clients, who can instantly retrieve deleted email from the server. Similarly, documents stored on the Server are also automatically erasure-proofed, with multiple-version copies automatically made twice a day by default. Accidentally overwrite a file? Two mouse clicks and the user can restore the old version. You can also download mail from a POP3 server into Exchange mailboxes, but it's seldom done because it's much more reliable to use Exchange directly, and you get to control which servers are allowed to send you mail (avoiding the Spammer servers).
