I want to move all my Hotmail messages to Gmail. Any ideas or any software available for doing this? Any help will be appreciated. I am fed up of having 2MB of space in hotmail and getting spammed constantly.
For Outlook users the easiest way I found to convert Outlook mail to .mbx is to install Outlook Express, import your mail, then find the .dbx file and use dbx2mbx to convert the file.
Is there any way to have gmail alert you when you have a message by running something in the tray or anything? Yahoo's companion bar shows an icon when I have new mail so I know when to check it, can't find anything like that with gmail.

This is what I used to move all my hotmail into gmail.
You have to mark all the messages "unread" and it only transfers from the inbox not other folders.
I found this is the easiest way to forward both Hotmail and Yahoo messages into Gmail, without having to import them into Mozilla/Thunderbird. The only draw back is an email address with a SMTP server is required.
This whole idea kinda negates much of th epoint of GMail....
GMail isnt cool just because its got gobs of space, but because the interface is innovative and offers alot of features that even my standalone client doesn't provide.
I'd be missing out on the conversation views, the GMail archive search and many other things by just using it as a POP3 service.
Couple that with the shifty nature with which I regard this app and I'd say excersize caution peeps!
