Thanks Allisolm. Did you happen to get a screenshot of the ads?

You're kidding. right?

The ASRock ad is the only one I've seen - flash ad horizontal at the top of the page. Crucial one is the "Liar, liar pants on fire vertical" at left of page and sleepys was horizontal at bottom of page. That's all folks!

I'm afraid not. The ad people basically need a screenshot of the exact ad that triggered the popup along with its URL. With the URL for the resulting popup, there's no way to tell what ad actually triggered the popup, since the whole point is to hide it to keep it from being removed.

Got another popup...

http://survey1.suitesmart.com/surve....anandtech.com;PAT=/forumdisplay.php;SEA=f=14

Is that what you need?

Also...
http://static.suitesmart.com/images/ae/invites/dexit.gif

That is the popup and there is no source, but when I clicked the gif it takes me to the other link posted above. (javascript popup ftl.)

Edit.

A bit of googling and apparently this is some sort of rogue ad that changes time to time. On top of that its triggered by google ads apparently... (according to at least one result I seen)

I thought it was a survey by AT by the looks of the thing, but I just kept closing it.

Ugg. If you can get it to come up again, let me know. Those stupid ads keep sneaking in and come up rarely enough that they're nearly impossible to find.

Yeah, I'll let you know. It eventually disappeared, so I couldn;t even try to grab any of the details on it, but I figured it was worth mentioning anyway.

I have a feeling that Anand isn't taking this seriously. More people will get tired of this and start blocking ads.

It's being taken care of seriously; the ad people happily remove this stuff. The problem is finding it. Telling us there are popups doesn't really help, you have to be able to give us screenshots and find the source of the ad.

Why aren't the ad people ensuring that there are no pop ups?
I haven't seen this issue on any of the other sites I frequent on a regular basis.

Because they use 3rd party ad networks to fill out the forums. Advertisers buy space on the main AnandTech site, but only a small number of them buy space on the forums. So 3rd party networks are needed to flesh things out here and to cover the costs of the forums.

And since this is done by a 3rd party network, AT's ad people have to block a specific ad in order to get it removed.

Humm, I'll forward that off to the ad people. However that may not be enough information.

instead of blocking all ads as some may have done now just do *mediaplex* as that's blocked on 4 other sites i have used (mainly due to making pages take longer to load then they should do or making them stall loading) this is only blocking the right ad under the suggestion box, the top and bottom one seems to use google and something els and they are fine

i only block ads on an site if it pops up inserted between posts or Any *intellitxt* (add that now if you have not already) base providers as that slows my browser down (in the past) and dam annoying when they popup when you just move your mouse over them or ads that slow the loading of pages down (page should load before ads not the other way round)

as i am an opera user until opera 11 comes (you be able to make addons then not that i need any) you have to look into the webpage source to find the ad domains something most would not know how to do

Not really a pop up add but this is what I get when backspacing out of a thread.
