I agree, shallow higher end women immediately fall for guys with a porsche, BMW or Mercedes...dudes and hillbilly ladies go for the guys with vettes and musclecars

Folks, you can get a nice used Boxster for as low as ~$20k in some areas with little mileage and an S for as little as ~$25k with low mileage. My friend's currently looking for a used one right now because they've dropped in the used market SO much. (more than the S2k) Though lately, there are fewer on the market right now.

A used 911 couldn't be the current gens because they still retain a lot of their value. If you do plan to do motorsports with it, it's a great car in terms of balance and handling... the S does add some needed punch but similar to the S2k, it's NOT going to be a drag race car.

Right, I wouldn't really recommend it if it were new..

Spoken by someone who has obviously never driven a car that handles like a slot car. The main thrust of the Boxster's design is canyon-carving handling. It is MUCH easier to get into a Boxster and drive fast than it is to get into a 911 and drive fast. The 911 is a wonderful machine, but it can't match the poise and balance of the Boxster. Heck, even a 944 Turbo can outrun a 911 through the twisties.

I don't have anything against a good drag car (I'd give just about anything for a nice, clean 1968 L-88 Corvette coupe), but it would be very nice if more of you 1/4 mile types weren't so bloody ignorant about anything that won't light up the drag strip.

The 928 was NOT a low-end Porsche. At the time when the 928 was in production, it was more expensive than the 911. The 928 was the top-of-the-line Porsche and was originally planned as the successor to the 911.

wait a minute. some of you are saying the boxter is underpowered and recommending an audi tt? how does that work?

the boxter may be 'low' in power, but it will handle like no other. ill bet that most if not all of you can even drive the boxter to it's full potential, how are you gonna even begin to drive a 'real' porsche to it's full potential?

FWIW, my boss traded in his S2000 on a Boxter (non-s). More comfortable, and easier to drive. You don't have to rag the hell out of it to get it to move. He did say that the clutch was very touchy though and was a step down from the S2000.

for 20-27k, you could get a 95 rx7 w/ a rebuilt & ported engine, have much more power than a boxster and look better and perform better at the same time! but that's just what i'd do

The Boxter is a great car - whether it's worth the money, well that depends on your priorities. A few observations:

1. This year's Boxter (non-S) = performance of last year's Boxter S, so you may want to consider buying new if you can throw together the dough

2. ~50/50 weight distribution (I think it's off by maybe a few tenths of a percent)

3. It sings - I drove my friend's Boxter and it had an awesome exhaust note (though I still prefer mine )

4. It's one of those "drive one and you'll understand" kinds of things. The car feels very light and tossable which makes for a lot of fun. It's not incredibly fast but it's definitely no slouch. I got in and felt at home in it immediately - communicative steering, clutch, etc. - it really is an easy car to drive.

Aside from these things it's really nothing all that special. It's interior is very plain but functional. If you're buying used you will not have a cupholder though (they just put it in this year). There are definitely better values for the money in terms of price/performanc and features but with the Boxter you get the Porsche name and a good driver's car.

I wasn't recommending the TT over the Boxster at all, nor was I saying it had more power (because I know it doesn't). I was just pointing out that there are other alternatives for two-seater cars if you want to look.

As far as handling, I've never driven a Boxster, but I can say thay my TT (which is a Quattro by the way) handles like it's stuck to the ground. I swear you could drive that thing up a wall.

Would I want a woman who chose me simply for the car I drive?

I beat you as well, no questions asked and if I wouldn't beat you in a race I would beat you by getting more women with the Porsche as last time I checked women were not all over Subaru...

It sounds like YOU are the one who is speaking without much knowledge about the cars you're trying to compare.

Just because the Z06 can accelerate well does not make it a "drag car". Its independant suspension doesn't lend itself to being optimised for drag racing. The Z06 will outperform a Boxster in the turns as well as in acceleration and braking.

I've done plenty of research comparing the performance of both cars, and I'd suggest that you do the same. It's evident that the Z06 is the better performing vehicle. It becomes apparent that the most vocal Boxster supporters are those who simply like the Porsche brand name, and would support anything that carried the Porsche emblem.
