port forwarding issue

Hi, I have a wireless camera I have setup, and I am trying to setup port forwarding so I can access it from anywhere via the web on my network, and have this problem:

When I set it up with port forwarding on a linksys router, it works fine because it doesnt ask exactly which port on the camera to forward, but rather just what ip address to foward and at what port (so if I goto mpIport it will just show whatever shows at that ip address when I goto it in the browser)

Now, I try to set this up on a belkin, and can not get it to work, because the belkin router asks which port to show as well as which port on the camera to display. I would expect it to be 80 on the camera, because that is the http port, but it doesnt work.

Anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem?

assuming this is a home setup, your isp is probably blocking port 80 so you can't run webservers from home. no way around it unless in the camera you can change it to run on a different port.

Are you trying to view the camera remotely via the web or just from within your network.
There's a difference.

Yea, that's my point.
You said the linksys works, but to truly test it you need to be outside of your network (can't test it from your location).

PM your IP and I'll tell you whether I can view via your linksys.

all the op needs to do is type in his ip into a browser and it will go through the web, not a direct link to the linksys - http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. (x=your ip)

Yes, and that will get him where: into the access pages of his router:IP typed into browser
What he wants to do is see if he has his webcam configured properly so he can access it remotely.
He said he has it configured properly for the linksys router, but I have my doubts about that if he only viewed it from within his network.

Bob has it right. Hitting it with the ip your isp has assigned to you at that given point will force the lookup through the internet, not his local LAN... He will not get his routers access pages/setup pages.

i wouldn't give advice unless i have tried it myself. personally i run about 6sites from home and hae for years but not on port 80 because my isp blocks it. believe it or not i do have some idea of what i am talking about. yo will ge into the access page of the router if you type its ip into the browser, definately but i am talking about the wan ip.

Guys listen, I'm not a noob heh.

On the linksys: Local Ip works (the 192.168 one), and the remote IP works ( myIport I specified)
On the Belkin: Local Ip works (192.168 one), but the remote IP DOESNT work (the myIport I specified)

Any ideas? It may be because Belkin asks for 2 ports, the one the real IP port should specify to, as well as the real Ip port (I mean like myIport --> cameraort2 )
I expected it to be 80 but that did not work.

you will need to find out what port the belkin router needs to forward...it should be in the camera manual....also what linksys router are you using that lets you forward without knowing the ports? or are you using upnp? they should be the same ports.

also are you running 2 routers in your lan at the same time?

last, what is the exact brand and model # of the camer you are using.

Are you testing your result from INISDE your own network? As noted by Slogun, with many routers, Port Forwarding can't be tested from inside. You have to test from an OUTSIDE IP address.

All the Belkin is offering is the ability to do Port Translation on top of Port Forwarding. This allows you to receive a request on one port, but forward the request to a DIFFERENT port on a downstream server. It's not a big deal. If you don't need Port Translation, you either leave the Private Port blank or enter the same port number as the Inbound Port.
