Portable battery pack advice.

Just blown up my old one and need to get a new one for summer camping trips.

Needs to have decent capacity, the higher the better.

1A USB output at a minimum.

Charge with a microUSB lead.

Be fairly sturdy.

Look on Amazon for the really highly rated ones. The ones with 400 reviews. I forgot the name brand. It's an Asian company but performs really well and is much cheaper than name brand ones anyway (which are rebadged from Asian companies).

I can find things like this on Amazon but I think it uses mini usb to charge with.

I really dont want to have to keep an extra cable just to charge it with. If it uses a microUSB I can use the same cable for the wall charger, the car charger and to charge the phone up with.

I'm not hugely price sensitive but I think that over $100 dollers for a 6mAh battery seems a bit excessive.

You can try the Astro2 or Astro3. I have the Astro2 and it is super handy.

The Astro2 has .6A & 2A output and the Astro3 has 2x 2A outputs.

Astro3 looks good but it looks like it dosnt use a microusb lead to charge.

Cant tell if that has a mini or micro USB input, looks like a mini. Shame as everything else looked OK.

Also cant find an Astro2 in stock in the UK.

the price cant be beat... for less then $20 shipped you get a rock solid power source. i keep mine in my lunchbox and anytime my phone needs a charge this will do it. only takes about an hour to charge my phone 100% from dead too, it works REALLY well. also, doesnt self drain. so charge it up and keep it laying around for weeks or months and itll still throw out a charge or two on your phone.

Just wondering, OP, how did you blow up your first one?

I use Moto's slim external battery, works well but is only good for ~ 1 charge. Can't say I'd recommend it for camping.

Used the crappy usb lead with changeable plugs that came with it. and it's shorted something. As it's a sealed unit I can't get into it to fix it with out trashing it.

That's one of the reasons I want to be able to use the same lead to charge the phone and charger.

This one says it does 4 and has good reviews, but I'd read them confirm accuracy of 4 charges.

I was looking for something a little smaller though, hence the questions about the Astros.
