Been playing a bit on the PS3. Just played on the PC, I don't understand why people would ever use a console for a FPS.... Anyways never mind that! So far so good!

ugh that's friggin disappointing. I sure as hell don't need the ps3 copy anymore. Craigslist here we come.

I know, it's a bummer that it doesn't work that way. From how integrated everything else is I would think they at least thought about and tried to make them compatible and sync between the two, but they must have had pretty big hangups from the start.

So if you buy the PS3 version you get a PC copy you don't need ?

While it's cool you get it, what's the point ? You don't need it to play online because you have the PS3 version.

I guess it's good for using on a laptop.

btw, best deal seems to be from Best Buy. pc version is $35 and you get a $10 gift card and theoretically a $10 gamer reward if you join that.

The PS3 and xbox versions have the same deal but are $45. The console versions might be cheaper if you consider trade in value.

like any steam game, you can play with your own account on multiple machines for your convenience. frankly that is a good thing. people trying to find a way to cheat..meh pointless.

Does the PS3 version require you to be online with PSN?

No, I don't think any PS3 game can require that. I'm not sure what the connection is between PSN being down and him getting stuck :hmm:

Unless he's just saying that his day is going poorly, like: "First I get stuck in portal, and now PSN is down! FML LOLZ"

Just finished the single player moments ago.

No way I'd normally finish a game this fast but I was home the last two days sick and this helped pass the time on and off.

I won't spoil anything but loved it from start to finish.

The bad thing about any game other than ones like black ops with strong multiplayer is the replay is just not there.

My brother picked it up also so we'll run through the co-op at some point at least. After that, hopefully the board creator features get going soon for the ps3.

Which do you like better, Portals 1's end music, or Portal 2's? Me, i am a bigger fan of 2's.

I went through a set of levels with my girlfriend and basically had to solve the puzzles myself (though she got one really quick), then I played the rest with a friend that loved the first Portal and we had a blast. Finished it in two sittings on Wednesday night.

How related are the co-op and single-player levels? If I play single-player first, does that spoil anything in terms of solutions for co-op (even though I'm hearing that the puzzles aren't massively difficult)? I'm itching to play some more Portal, but my buddy probably won't have a chance to hang out until next week.

The puzzles are completely separate, though learning the basics for the new puzzles (bridges, etc.) will make you adapt better in co-op.

Finished single player earlier today. It was fun, but I was expecting it to be better. I tried a little co-op, didn't really like it :/

and no challenges and advanced maps is disappointing. the achievments seem pretty lame too. I replayed the first portal a bunch of times and put a good amount of hours into it. 6 hours into portal 2 and I might be done :/

Man, this is one of those rare games that I just absolutely loved every second of. The story and environment was way more creative that I expected, and I had high expectations coming in. The few characters that exist are all lovable in their own way, and you feel a rare connection to them that doesnt happen in virtually any other game. Very few games can make me laugh out loud, and trying to explain to my wife what was going on in the story made me realize how ridiculous and awesome it all is. The very, very end was just brilliant, even if the last fight itself wasnt as creative as I'd hoped.

How rare is it to find a game with pretty much exactly zero filler? Where the meat of the game is just drenched in fine detail, the way the world feels alive. The physics and the way the levels get crushed at times was really impressive.

And the puzzles themselves were pure perfection. The solution is always there to be figured out, never a cheap trick, but never obvious from the start. Definitely a huge step up from the relatively simple puzzles of the first, and I'm also glad they almost entirely removed the dexterity tests that required fast reaction. Those were never particularly fun puzzles, these are all of the more mental variety. I'm sure they playtested the hell out of them.

I am a bit sad to see there isnt too much in the way of the really tough end-game challenges that were in the XBLA portal, but I'm hoping there will be some good DLC.

Still, thats the only little complaint I can make. Overall, its a masterpiece. Loved it from start to finish, although you MUST play portal 1 before getting into it.

Pretty much agree. The original was a slick piece of code and likely the most under-rated game of all time. Portal 2 is even better.

I mostly get a kick out of the writing and dry humour, and also lost count at the number of insider 'geek' jokes while wondering through the maze. Note that all lab computers are PC-ATs, which is almost certainly a ribbing directed at Bill Gates and his comments about computing architecture in the 80's, etc. 'Cave Johnson' was hysterical and some of his monologues were direct satire on other games such as BioShock. The Black Mesa comment forced me to stop playing I was laughing so hard. I'm sure there are others if you look around.

I've played or tested pretty much all first person shooters, and the Half-Life / Portal folks seem to have an edge over the other guys in terms of writing. If you insist on shooting mindless hordes of zombies, or take pride in 'head-shotting' a 7yr old in Death Match this isn't the game for you.

Underrated? This game was universally loved by nearly every single critic and person that played the game (which is a lot). It was so loved that there are countless t-shirts, fan art, silly costumes, paper craft companion cubes... everything you could think of that was in the game was praised and took to heart. Even Mr. Zero Punctuation himself couldn't find a bad thing to say about it, and Yahtzee ALWAYS trashes games.

The game was/is adored by millions, and rightfully so. To call it "under-rated" is quite absurd. To the point where I'm questioning if you know what that term even means :hmm:

Actually I'd say Valve themselves underrated Portal. If they knew ahead of time the amount of fanfare the game would generate, do you honestly believe they would have bundled it for free with the Orange Box? Probably not. :hmm:

By the way, the title of this thread is a bit misleading. Last I checked you can't play custom maps on the console versions (would love to see it happen though!), so until that day comes, the PC version is still the best. ()
