Most likely will not release early simply because steam is self destructing right now under the extreme loads this promotion is generating. I keep getting booted, and I can't download any of the games.

Damnit! I hate you At forums!

I was planning on waiting for this to be included in the inevitable steam sale later this year, but instead I fell for all your hype. At least it's Valve, so chances are it will be good.

I wish there was a way to prevent it opening early for you guys since I'm getting the PS3 version for the free PC copy.

C'mon man Valve is like the only PC centric developer we've got (other than Blizzard). Let us have this one.

So far, this is the closest to a review I've read for Portal 2:

We’ve played and reviewed Portal 2 and awarded it 94 and an Editor’s Choice award. The review appears in the latest issue of PC Gamer US, and the June issue of PC Gamer UK, on-sale May 11.

Why did it get that score and the prestigious award? We described it as “hilariously well-written and acted”, “full of thrilling showcase moments” and “some of the most social gaming you’ll have.” We basically think it’s outstanding.

Check the site when Portal 2 is released for our full review, catch up on the Potato Sack ARG, or read our most recent preview for more. You can subscribe to PC Gamer US here and PC Gamer UK here.

I'm surprised there's no reviews out for it yet. Guess there's an NDA until it's released on Tuesday.

I unlocked all six "potatoes" in Defense Grid today, but that's the only game in the list I own. Here's hoping we have it unlocked by 5PM Monday when I get off of work.

I noticed when I played the new DG map. At the end the computer says let's check back later and see how whatever if modifying the maps turns it into. hmm

I wonder if that's off at all or is trying to go based on some model. Because you can look at the Steam website, and according to it, there is an hour and thirty minutes between the projected launch and the default "reboot."

the projected time according to http://www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/ is the time it will launch if everyone just gives up playing the potato games right now

these user calculated launch projections factor in rates of unlock progress completion if the average number of players keep playing as they have been.

All this really means is that they could have released the game earlier, but instead they pushed the date back a few days and added in this "promotion" to make some more money for themselves and the devs of those games.

Anyone remember the "Golden Wrench" promo in TF2? They said at "random" times players who craft items in-game would be rewarded a golden wrench. It turned out it wasn't random at all and they even VAC banned a guy because a Valve employee leaked the "random" times to him.

Look, I love Valve and all (have Portal 2 pre-ordered), but it's obvious this is just marketing for more money.

Yeah, I'm incredibly relieved I didn't waste $38 on the potato sack and spend a huge chunk of 3 days trudging through games I really didn't have an inclination to play in the first place only to be able to play Portal 2 on April 19th at 4am EST instead of 9am.

With one last push a few more games might be completed but it doesn't look likely PC gamers in the western hemisphere will get to play Portal 2 at the same time as console players who go to a midnight release. What a huge slap in the face to those who did try and jump through their hoops, Valve better understand their blunder here.

Exactly.

This whole thing was scripted from the beginning.

congrats, you have figured out how 'promotions' and 'advertisements' work.

Apparently a whole lotta people in this thread haven't though. A lot of people still seem to think that buying and/or playing the "potato sack" games will somehow cause Valve to release Portal 2 earlier depending on how many people buy or play them. That's obviously not the case.
