Portland, OR: Snowboarding?

So I just moved to Oregon a few months ago. This being my first winter here, it only makes sense to take advantage of the mountains and the snow (and to ditch the rain for a while). Snowboarding is obviously the best escape plan!

So, who around here rides or skis? Where should I go? I've only been up to Mt. Hood (and luckily avoided getting stuck up there :rose so far though I've been to both Timberline and the Meadows. Both are decent enough. I've heard of other places to go but I'm still looking for input as to the best mountains, the best snow, the best deals, and the best experience. Tell me everything you know. Everything.

Hell, while we're on the subject, let me know if you'd be interested in going to one of the mountains. If we could organize some trips, that would be great. Not too many of my friends around here board and the ones that do are flaky enough to bail on me come the weekend. No good. No good at all.

Have at it, Portlanders!

I definitely think the best snow is at Mt Bachelor The drier snow is worth the extra trip if you have the time, and prefer powder Probably as good as it gets in Oregon unless you're a back country guy.

For convenience to Portland, I prefer Meadows myself. Night ski is normally the best value.

I second Bachelor for skiing/snowboarding. It's just a better experience and not as crowded. For Mt Hood, I prefer Timberline for the lodge experience.

Night Ski is always the best value, but I prefer day skiing.....before the lights dim... 8am-3pm.

I didn't realize there was skiing that close to Portland. I'm jealous.

Yeah, man. It's only about 45 minutes from the city to a number of good places. 45 minutes the other way gets you an ocean. This isn't a bad place to be!

Mt. Bachelor is a great idea. I certainly don't mind the extra driving since driving anywhere around here - especially now - produces some gorgeous scenery. Maybe I'll stick to Hood tomorrow and check out Bachelor on Sunday. This is shaping up to be a good weekend.

Now who's with me?

I've been to Mt. Bachelor once a long time ago, I liked it and would go again if I had the chance. I feel like the days we had up there weren't that great though, the weather was bad.

Meadows is still cut off due to Hwy 35 being closed from both directions, right?

Mt. Hood has the infamous wet snow known as the "Cascade crud," but is close enough to make it an easy day-trip. Bachelor has the dry powder, but unfortunately, is a good 3-4 (and sometimes more) hours drive away from Portland, depending on road conditions.

No, they got it open early. I was amazed when I saw they cleared that HUGE mess already, but seems like Hwy 35 has been open for a weeek or so now and Meadows is ready and open.

I second Bachelor. Nice dry pow. For Hood, Safeway used to, I don't know if they do anymore, provide discount night skiiing tickets to Meadows. Night skiiing there is always fun. I'll be heading down to the Couv during Christmas but I don't think i'll have to the time to hit the Mtn. Hey, if you're ever up in Bellingham I wouldn't mind taking you up to Baker

Edit: Poor Oregonians..Baker has almost three feet more of snow
