Mediacom is their infinite wisdom installed a new modem when lightening blew my brand new modem. The problem is it is also a router and my devices like a camera security system and home server cannot connect through their router. I am assuming there is a firewall in their modem that is preventing port access to my modem which is running tomato. Is there a way I can turn off all their router stuff and just use it as a modem? My security camera system uses upnp to setup ports. Many routers don't allow upnp anymore.

Mediacom tech support did not even know the passwords to get into their modem or that you could turn off the WiFi. I had to go online and get the default user and password for the modem and was able to get in to turn off the WiFi that I did not want running with my own WiFi network.

Any Ideas?

What is the brand and model number of the modem/router? Some of them can be set to pass-through (modem only) mode by logging in to the administration page. Some can only be set that way by the ISP. Some can't do it at all.

When I get home, I will have some answers. I may have to contact the modem manufacture directly. Mediacom is pretty clueless.

Well looks like I bricked the modem. I turned off all the firewall stuff and then instead of a blank page I got the router login screen when I tried to access a port. I changed the ip address from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 which is the ip address of my other router. So now I can't get into the modem to set things back. I changed my router to a different ip and I still can't get into the modem setup. I have also tried to connect directly to a PC to access the modem and nothing happens.

The modem is a Hitron model CGN. It is also a WiFi router and Ethernet router. I did not see an option to make it act like a modem which is what I need. An incoming port request is always going to see the modem router. I wonder if there is a hard reset I can do on the modem?

see page 24 - Resetting the CGN
1.7 RESETTING THE CGN
When you reset the CGN to its factory defaults, all user-configured settings are lost,
and the CGN is returned to its initial configuration state.

There are two ways to reset the CGN:
Press the RESET button on the CGN, and hold it in for ten seconds or longer.
Click WAN/LAN > Backup. In the screen that displays, click the Factory Reset
button.
The CGN turns off and on again, using its factory default settings.
NOTE: Depending on your CGN’s previous configuration, you may need to reconfigure
your computer’s IP settings; see IP Address Setup on page 20.

Once restored bridge it.

under gateway function toggle residential gateway to disable, click OK then it will restart. You may have to disconnect and reconnect to port one and restart router. It will be bridged now.

Please explain bridge? Will this make it act like a dumb modem?

I figured out the reset deal and got it working again. I tried to hook my security camera system to the modem Ethernet ports and then tried the upnp port configuration and it said all the ports were busy which is BS. The tomato router sets them up no problem.

the bridge mode will allow you to use it only as a Modem and nothing more. You can use the tomato router again for NAT, firewall, port forwarding ect...

Thanks XLer8or it is working now. They sure don't make it easy and the terminology they use for different brands is different.
