Heres the deal. My friend finally got broadband on her PC, a Dell Dimension xp300 PII 300mhz. When she originally bought it it was state of the art (for a dell at least). It had a 8 gig HD running win95a so obviously the 8 gigger was partitioned into 4 drives. Now, I upgraded her last year to win98 and consolidated 2 of the partions into one still leaving her 3 partitions but at least have one larger one. But she has two kids and a husband who constantly install crap on the small C: and of course its only had 5 megs left by the time the cable guys got through with it. ANyway, This sucker needed a complete overhaul. So, I link my laptop and copy all of her important data over, wipe out all of the partions and created one big 8 gig partition. I installed WinME and of course it doenst recognize half of the crap on the dell like the sound and other cheap OEM sh!t. Anyway, after downloading all the stuff from their website all ran smooth including the cable modem. I installed Windvd for the DVD player and popped in a dvd. Windvd tells me there is no DVD drive. Sure enough, I go into my computer and though there is a cdrom D: it does not read the contents of a DVD. I pop in a regular cdrom and it reads just fine. It just wont read dvds. I thought that maybe the encoder card was effed up, its a cinemaster 1.2 or some crap like that so I whip out the card, uninstall windvd and just pop in a dvd but its doesnt read any dvds, just plain cds. Anyone know why? Can the dvd portion of the drive be bad? Is that even possible? Help! thanks.
