I kindof felt that Deep Blue Sea was a reboot of Jaws. Granted I don't want to see them make a sequel to it.

No. No. No. Damn it, No.

Jaws is still an A+ movie. There is no reason at all to remake it with what will inevitably be an inferior product.

I have a better idea. How about a James Bond spin off?

You can keep the title.

I just read they wanted to do a Breakfast Club remake, too, and even Short Circuit.

The brilliance of the original movie is you never got a good look at the shark. As Spielberg put it "the film went from a Japanese Saturday matinee horror flick to more of a Hitchcock, the less-you-see-the-more-you-get thriller."

Any Jaws remake is ultimately going to get sexed up with unnecessary CGI, with the shark jumping out of the water looking all vicious when people get attacked. It's going to look incredibly cheesy.

Kind of like later having the budget to put in a full Wampa when just having the hand puppet was more effective. Sometimes it's best just to leave things well enough alone.

The cast of the old movie was Boring, they should liven it up with some better actors.

Vin Diesel as Quint
The Rock as Brody
and Paris Hilton as Hooper!

I hope you are being sarcastic.

There is actually an insane amount of shark movies out there.

A remake would just be a cash grab frankly.

Yep. Jaws is still good now. It turned out so well because the mechanical shark was always broken down, so they had to use suspense and imply there was danger instead of showing a shark killing people all the time.

Today, all they'd do is CG a shark nomming the hell out of people, and it'd be more of a slasher film without all the suspense that made the original great.

That's exactly what Gareth Edwards did with his 2014 version of Godzilla. He's a big Spielberg fan, and didn't really show Godzilla that much. Lot of people were complaining about it, but how much the big G was onscreen compares pretty well to the original 1954 Toho film.
Too many want that instant gratification these days.

this is true.
my take on Jaws is that not only you get all this^, but also, in the last 10 minutes, the satisfaction that only monster movies give (because in the very end, you get to see the shark in all its animatronic glory).
