Pascal is like Kepler of this gen -- a stop gap generation series designed for highest clocks. The worrying part is with NV continuing to raise prices, if $799 Big Pascal comes out June 2017, in about 12-15 months, GV104 2070 will match or beat it for close to half price. We just cannot win this game What we can see is the more expensive high end cards will become, the more they will depreciate in value faster when next gen comes out. We are seeing this back-to-back with $699 780Ti -> $329 970 and now again with $649 980Ti -> $379 1070. When Big Pascal comes out, it'll be fast enough for 4K gaming. On the positive side it means soon 1080p 60Hz gamers won't need to buy a card more expensive than $249, 1440p gamers will be fine with a $400 card and that will drop to $300 with Volta. Gaming overall will become cheaper unless pushing 1440p 144Hz and 4K.
Now you're just asking for someone to strap an NH-D15 on one with a 250cfm server fan and run it outside in -40C weather this winter.
I don't see Nvidia releasing 1080 TI until AMD is ready with Vega. Titan PX will come this fall and then I see Nvidia trying to repeat their 980 TI success - release it a month or two ahead of AMD's best while offering the same or slightly better performance. We'll have a really good grasp of what AMD is capable of with Vega based of P10's release in a month.
I think you missed my point; I wasn't even discussing AMD. I am saying because now the generation is split into 2 parts for both firms, they will have $599+ cards every year, roughly offering 30-35% increase in performance per year (it's actually about 32-33% like clock work since September 2009). That means 1 year it's midrange $599-649, another year flagship $649-799, then after x70 card brings last gen's flagship for roughly half the price, and the cycle repeats. It means buying ANY $599-699 card with the intention of keeping it beyond 2 years now will be a terrible upgrade strategy. I just showed you what happened with 780Ti -> 970 and 980Ti -> 1070. We need to adopt to the new GPU landscape and upgrade more often or our cards will lose value faster than ever before. I mean $699 780Ti's performance can be purchased now for $250 and only 2.5 years have passed.

They've been following a consistent style for the past two generations; mid range cards released as flagship - titan card - cut down titan card. I expect we will see exactly the same thing again this time.
980ti class card price going up to $800? Count me out for SLI for sure. If the prices keep going up, I'll just throw in the towel and stick to the cheaper mid range releases. Even the cut down 1070 style cards. I'll just buy one of them and turn down some settings, spend $400 and be done with it. Screw it. It will be good enough. This is getting too expensive with too much headache attached.
2 years before your hardware hit bargain bin used to be norm long before we hit 28nm silicon era.
If anything hardware keep value better than ever now.
If you can sell your 980ti for over 450 why not side grade....With SLI "supposedly" improved for Pascal (focus on 2-way), going 1070 SLI might be a great option if you're really wanting SLI.
EDIT: Oh wait, you're already on 980 TI SLI. Hahahahahaahaha. Sell those bad boys now and side-grade to 1070 SLI. It'll save you 200+ watts of power usage.

1080 and 1070 went up $50 from the 900 series. I think 1080 Ti will be $100 premium from last gen though. $750 for MSRP. Probably $100 more for FE.
And since Titan series is reference (FE) only, I'm gonna go with $1100 for the Titan 1000.
Needless to say the GTX 1080ti and Titan will be BEASTS. my guess is they will both be around 40-50% faster than the 1080
This would make it the first really viable 4K single GPU experience IMHO. The 1080 will get you by pretty well, but 30-40% more performance would really be a great 4K card.
