Possible bad hard drive

I have both a 320GB hard drive and a Seagate 500GB hard drive that I received a few days ago. It worked until this morning when I started up my computer and realized that drive wasn't being recognized at all by Windows. I turned the computer back off and turned it back on, hoping that it was just a glitch, but instead my computer did the POST right but got stuck at the screen refusing to boot up. Is the drive bad or is it a problem with my motherboard? The computer boots fine with the new drive unplugged.

The computer boots with the second drive plugged in but seems to take forever doing so, and the drive is still completely unrecognized.

Under the Seagate SeaTools diagnostic program, the drive is recognized but everything fails except the "Drive Identify" test.

i would make sure you have the latest BIOS version and if not then update it. if that doesn't fix the problem, its probably the hard drive.

Thanks for the advice, didn't work though. I kind of figured it was the hard drive but I guess I was in denial I guess I'll request an RMA from Newegg and get it sent out today...

sounds good, still sucks to loose a drive. I have lost many over the years
