Does it POST out of the case with just the CPU/HSF, RAM and videocard? Don't forget to clear CMOS with the PSU unplugged.

Hi burnout832, welcome to the forums.

1. The POST screen is the screen that you see when you start up the computer.

2. Need to know what motherboard you have, or check your manual.

How was a good portion of your board grounded??

Yes, All you are doing is temporarily shorting the circut so CMOS goes back to its default state
The CMOS jumper has to be on the 1-2 pins, except to clear CMOS. Allways unplug the power supply before clearing CMOS.

Did you use the motherboard stand offs??

Edit; if you didn't use the standoffs you probably fried your board. RMA time

burnout, here is a link.

Standoffs are the copper and plastic pieces that screw into the case or MB tray allowing you to mount the MB up away from the case or tray, we install these standoffs so the solder points on the back of the MB don't come in contact with the case or MB tray. Thus narrowing the chance of a short.
