Possible Compusa deal on Sony 12x CD-RW drive for $150 after rebate

Rebate form is for either the 10x or 12x (I got me one). No sweat. However, their online site doesn't mention this rebate.

Also... I can't understand why people are worried about the 78 vs. 80 min burn. Come on now, does the 2 minutes really mean that much? After all, with these CD's costing under a quarter a piece, does anyone really care that much about stretching the burn a little further? Seems kinda petty to me, but then I've come to expect that here lately.

Thanks rhowcow2 for posting this deal. I picked up a 12x today while hunting for the 45 gb hard drives. Awesome deal!

80m is a big deal to some people especially when they want an exact copy of an 80mb disc. It sounds like it isn't a problem with this drive... Plus this thing looks like it is in line for CloneCD support (fingers crossed) so yahoOO!

There were a bunch more out at the Hillside CompUSA in Chicago. The other locations seemed to be out. Email me if you want exact details for Chicago.

Bubba. I just burned a music disc clocking in at 79:47. you can't get any closer to 80min then that.

Rock on... hehe... Time to fleebaay my old burner. When you get rolling with these hot deals it is almost like leasing computer equipment - getting a new version every 6 months to 2 years and trading up at reduced cost due to selling old equipement. Sweeeeet!

Thanks for the post. I picked one up this afternoon without any problem. I also picked up a copy of VideoWave III. There are 2 different packages: a small one for $9.99 with a $10 rebate and a bigger package for $49.99 and $50 rebate. Just wonder if they're the same package? Are they current version (3.5)? I have not opened my copy yet....

I just picked one up. I can confirm that they write a full 80 minutes. I just wrote a CD that was 79:34:59 (In 7 minutes!). Thanks to all involved.

I just got the 12x drive, but when i went to the rebate wall, they ran out of regular rebates and only had photo copies. There was two pages stapled together, the first page says that it is for the 10x, and the second page that you mail in, doesn't seem to say anything about the 12x. Could i just use that rebate form or do i need a diffrent one. Can some one email me the form if they have it? Please, pretty please, and oh, with a cherry on top.

I just tested it too. I just burned 699.7 MB onto a disc and all was readable. I tested it after the burn in that drive and in another plain CDRom. It was pretty damn nice to burn it all in about 6.5-7 minutes too! Especially compared to my 2x burner that wouldn't do over 650 MB.

Hi, guys, I bought one 12x drive, After I installed it, I put the included SONY CD-RW into the drive, a huge
noise came out. It seemed that the driver was spinning crazily fast. Can anyone tell me what was wrong? Thanks.

I got one today as well. Returned that crappy Cendyne 6/4/32 cus it was damn working damn slower than my old HP 4x. The guy didn't even charge me %15 for restocking fee (guess he was too busy).

Have one question, please help.

If I want to make a duplicate one disc with 12x speed, will I get into any trouble when use my Pioneer DVD 10x/40x to read the master disc?

just got the sony 12x last night for $150 no problems.

Its says 299.99 on the shelf but scanned 199.99.

Its hella faster than my mitsumi 2x and does cd text which is good for my pioneer cd receiver in my car. Now its time to reburn all my cds

I got the drive last night, installed and configured it and went over to www.sony.com, because it wasn't letting me use Fireburner
also. Anyways, I browsed around and found that there is some new drivers and updates for the drive. Anyways, after updating them, I burned a Win ME disk and sure enough, it worked good now. Just go to sonys web page and look for the model and the drives under it. Good Luck!!
