I just sent in the rebate forms today via certified and return receipt mail. Also made copies of everything, so that should help in case they don't pay.

Something about these < $50 rebate.
I swear, I never got my CompUSA rebate. (maybe just my luck)
I, once, use register and return receipt to prove they indeed received my complete rebate form...but still...................

BESTBUY rebate on the other hand, I ALWAYS received them...strange.....

hey all, I sent sand000 a rebate form in the mail today so he should be ok

I'm glad I'm going to the post office tonight - my rebate is definately going out with those delivery confirmation, etc. options.. Note in another thread someone mentioned his experience with CompUSA rebates - basically you should call to check on it at least once.

Found the 12x burner at my local CompUSA and it rang up at $199.00 no problem. There were four or five on the shelf when I left and a stack of rebates at the Rebate Center, too. Thanks for the heads up guys; you rock my socks! Now I can dump my old Plexwriter 8x on the computer I'm building for a friend.

Bummer... I called CompUSA online and the offer is for the sony 12x at B&M only from what I was told. I live in the upper midwest and there is nothing for CompUSA stores nearby.

Freekylink: what offer B&M only, huh? People at CompUSA.com are smoking a serious crackpipe, as usual.

I ordered my drive online since there is no CompUSA in my area. I WILL get the damn rebate or some heads will fly. If the coupon doesn't say it has to be purchased at a B&M store, they will have to send you the rebate.

Or would they rather wait 'til the BBB contacts them? CompUSA are a bunch of crackwh0res. I bought a bunch of stuff from them during the Windows 98 promotion and got my rebates after 1.5 years. I had changed my address twice by then hehe. But I did get my $$$.

Guys and Gals,

I too just got back from CompUSA and the clerk had no idea that the 12X drives were selling for 199.99 (he was trying to sell me the TDK 12X10X32). The sticker reflected 299.00, I asked him to ring it up and it certainly did show as 199.99. As for the rebate, the front page does clearly state it is for the 10X drive but the requirements of the rebates state that the UPC that needs to be included should be 0-27242-57155-6 (the 10X drive) or0-27242-57917-0 (the 12X drive). I verified both the UPC's before actually buying the item, needless to say I am going to expect my rebate

BTW I went to the store located in Columbia Maryland and they still had a boatload of them!!

Knocks, when did you order it? I would be curious to know if you or anyone else receives a rebate with their online 12x order. Also, I would like to know if anyone was told that their online 12X order was eligible for the rebate and would receive the rebate.

I am sure I won't receive a rebate form from the online store. I called the nearest store and asked them to send me a blank rebate form. I will combine that with my online receipt and send it out.

Those of you who still want one there are plenty in the LA region... same issue is at stake here as all over the country... THe item will scan at 199 no matter what the price tag says...

Yeah the guy who gave me the box even said "What!!!" when he saw $199.99 rang up for the stuff that says $279.99

he also scratched his head about $199.99 price for both 10x and 12x.

Knocks,
Who did you get to send you the rebate form? Does it say on the rebate, good for instore purchases only? I have been calling the 1-800 # with no luck. The nearest CompUSA store is over 300 miles away. I called my nearest CompUSA store and they told me that I am SOL. I would have to come to the store to get the rebate.

Freekylink;
I took a stack of the rebate forms, cause there were boat loads of them. Anyways, if you need a rebate, I can mail you one in the mail. I would email you one, but cant afford a scanner :frown: anyways, LMK if you still need one.

Godspeed to all!

That would be great. Does it say anywhere on the rebate that it is good for instore purchases only? Is there any stipulations that would disqualify me if I bought it online? Also, when does the rebate have to be postmarked by?
Thanks

I usually receive my rebates fine from CompUSA. There was once that the software company rejected my rebate. I scanned the flyer, my rebate form, and e-mail compUSA. They're pretty quick in responding and ask a local manager to contact me. He offered a cash-redeemable gift certificate of the same value of my rebate.

To be obsolutely sure you will get rebate, always photo-copy every related document (form, receipt, UPC, etc). Keep a database record of your rebate applications. Put filing date, receiving date, etc. Maybe put the date it is supposed to arrive.

I start to do it this time by adding a copy of my photocopy of all the documents in the mail so they know I have everything in photocopy that they should not mess with my application. Good idea? I will see.

I got SONY but have not opened. Over-burn, BURN-proof is the major features missing from this drive. Does anyone know if BURN-proof can be added with firmware upgrade or it's completely hardware. From information I read, it could be controlled by software. I don't know if the suspension of writing is completely hardware or not.

Thanks,

cpliu

1) This drive DOES overburn. If you read posts above people have written full 80min cds without any problems. SONY just does not want to admit it. In my Motherboard manual it says that overclocking can make the computer run SLOWER. So we all know we can believe everything we read.

2) BURN-PROOF technology is not 100% burn proof. If you go read other Message Board there are plenty of people that still make ocassional coasters with their BURN PROOF technology.

3) This drive has 4MB buffer it kind of accomidates for the BURN PROOF crap. The word is SONY tested the BURN PROOF on the drive and did not like how it went so they put the 4MB buffer in there.

In answer to Freekylink and anyone else who purchased online, No, it doesn't say anywhere on the rebate form that it has to be an instore purchase. Here's the exact wording on the back:

To receive your $50 rebate
1. Purchase Sony 10x4x32 Internal Erasable/ReWritable CD-RW Drive (sku #273651) or Sony 12x8x32 Internal Erasable/ReWritable CD-RW Drive (sku #276942.

2. Product must be purchased between October 7, 2000 and October 14, 2000 at CompUSA.

3. Fill in all requested information on this rebate form.

4. Mail this completed form along with a copy of your dated sales receipt and the original UPC code from the product package.

Blah, blah, blah. The other stuff just says no copies of the UPC will be accepted and stuff like that.

From what I have seen people say it does not overburn. Burning 80 min onto an 80 min CDR is not overburning. Burning 75.5 minutes onto a 74 min CD is overburning.

Well I went to order it online at CompUSA at 2 pm mountain time and they are gone. They are nowhere to be found online anymore. They removed them from their site. No backorder note, just gone.

I finally got thru to a Colorado store and ordered it over the phone. All of the stores have it in stock, but the corperate sales number 1-800-COMPUSA will not sell you one. You will have to call your CompUSA B&M and order it. To get thru their phone maze, dial 0# when the automated message starts. It will ring the front desk.
