Works fine for me. Why was the original topic edited? I am just afraid they will jack the price like provantage did.

Maybe PNY will up the price before the backorders come in.

ANd they did .. my e-mail from Provantage :

To: ***** *******

Re: Order Number *******

Dear Provantage Customer,

Occasionally, the price may change on an out-of-stock item due to an unexpected cost increase from the manufacturer. Unfortunately, an unexpected cost increase has occurred on an item you ordered, Provantage part# PNYV03P. As a result of this increase, our new price is $448.20.

Please advise if we should proceed with your order at the new price.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,

I just received the exact same email .

At this rate I am just going to order the $409 eVGA one from newegg!

eCost is selling a "GEFORCE 6800/DVI/TV-256MB DDR / AGP 8X" for $334.79 which I assume must be a GT? As far as I know a 256mb plain 6800 doesnt exist, right? Either way it is a Jaton which is supposed to be the worst brand known to man so that's out of the question.

Does any one know if the eVGA is supposed to be any more or less silent than the PNY card?

The bandwidth limit of DVI is 1600x1200 60Hz. That's the standard. There are some higher resolution wide screen monitors that run at a lower refresh rate (52Hz) to maintain the bandwidth limit.

There actually is a problem with the 5900/6800 in that case, but a registry fix is available from the video card manufacturer to work around it. It should be fixed in the driver itself soon.

TMDS/VESA standard is 165MHz bandwidth "up to 1600x1200 @ 60Hz". See page 4 for the specifications: http://www.proxima.com/downloads/pdf/DVI-WhitePaper.pdf

Yeah. Both the ATI R3x0/R420 and NV3x/NV40 cards use the same ARB2 rendering path. Why do people act like that's some kind of news? It's been plastered everywhere for months.

where'd you get that info about DVI being limited to 16x12@60 ?

My friend is running 23 HP flat pannel 19X12@60 just fine on his "old" 9800 Pro

Yeah, and what about widescreen LCD monitors for 1080p WMV9? Clearly, DVI is the only way to go for "Better than HDTV" resolution and now you tell me that DVI doesn't support it? How does the Mac version get away with is if ADC is just a proprietary-shaped DVI connector?

Now I'm torn. I was dead-set on getting a 16:9 ?x1080 LCD but not if the refresh rate is slower than the frame rate.

LCD's have fixed refresh rates of 60hz for the most part. The refresh rate will often be lower than the frame rate. This is why many people do not like LCD's for gaming. This is why you get ghosting.

MANY people will tell you they do not notice ghosting. Good for them. However I always do, my advice is make sure you test it for yourself before you buy it. Go buy one at a place like BestBuy where you can return it if you dislike it.

The only thing that worries me about this deal is that the demand is going to be FAR greater than the supply most likley. Hopefully 75 people will get a good deal, but I honestly have my doubts. I will be very surprised if the price is not raised.

Possible solution for some people looking for the GT:

Buy the vanilla 6800 @ $287.00 free shipping at the egg and use eVGA's step up program when the GT's (or ultras) are more readily available and hopefully cheaper.

It's difficult to say, but I would imagine within the next 90 days the price should drop on these... who knows...

I doubt it .. look at the price of 5950's and 9800XT's .. vendors still list them at their original full price!

on topic: I wish i had the dough to get the gt as that seems to be the deal to get. but only true pc geeks spend $300+ on a video card and i aint there yet.

Yes, and progressive-scan is 60 frames per second vs. interlaced's 60 fields per second. If it's true that the refresh rate drops to 51hz, this will cause the same noticable tearing in 1080-line LCDs when using DVI at the native resolution. So is 1080p WMV9 a myth because there is no display which can properly handle it?!

Those numbers don't prove anything, nvidia's cards have always been better at ogl games its not that the games are coded for nvidia.

On the other hand I wouldn't order from anyone that doesn't have the product in stock. Too many what if's.

Yeah, you're probably not a fanboy.

You're just unaware that the 6800GT has been available for a couple of weeks, that the DX9 Radeon and NVIDIA models all use the same ARB2 rendering path in Doom3, and that the drivers are just a regular WHQL update (Microsoft must be in on it, too!!!!1).

Very deliberate! I mean the 61.76 drivers were released a few days ago, this card deal will ship on August 4th (ignore the fact they've been on Fry's store shelves for 2 weeks and shipping online a little longer than that), and that Doom 3 will go on sale August 3-5. It's all too convenient to be a coincidence! LOL

It is with sincere disappointment that we post this message:

At approximately 4:10 Eastern time., our distributor called and informed us that the manufacturer made an error and the price to them was incorrect.
They were working on updating the price in their system and that they would not be able to ship at the price quoted on our backorders, but that, our backorders will still be in place.

This evening we will be disabling the part until we actually have stock in hand and are able to ship the product and have the correct pricing established.
For those on the notification list, we will be sending an e-mail for you to cancel your notification if so desired shortly.

Best regards,
The staff at Axent Micro Inc.
