The news is saying the when the president, said "It's fine, sorted, no problem"

It was via a terrible/shaky facetime message.

So they think that things must be REALLY bad, otherwise why has his communications become so dodgy.
Is it because he is heading/fleeing for safety somewhere ?

They are saying he (president) may bring in forces from elsewhere, anyway (although that sounds BAD in its own right).

They are saying that the casualty pictures are TOO GRAPHIC to display, so are mostly NOT showing them. Civilians have been shot on the bridge, apparently (and there are other areas of casualties, unfortunately).

Don't worry. I'm also confused (if that's what you meant).
Sometimes these things just stop after a few hours, other times it ends up with major regime change.

I'm not sure what it will be this time, and will have to wait and see.
How on earth this will affect Syria, I don't know ?

Actually, so far the military has shown no interest in taking over the country (previous coups), but rather takes action like this any time they see the government radicalizing or taking over/consolidating power for themselves (as Erdogan has been doing). They will let the civilians take over, once again, but only after they clean up the latest mess.

One of the groups Erdogan has been going after are led by a cleric who now lives in Pennsylvania. They want to moderate Islam and work with other religions. They are technologically savvy, are successful and are the ones that Erdogan has been going after lately because that group has members who work in the Turkish courts and they have been going after Erdogan's son and others involved in corruption scandals.

This isn't your usual coup, not by a long shot. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
