Don't be too harsh on them.
After all they are trying to make a living. If they are as smart as most people here, most likely they wouldn't work at the retail store.

I once acquired a DVD recorder at BESTBUY.
I asked: Why "Liteon" is so much cheaper?
Replied.."because it is Bestbuy brand."
I asked:"Isn't Liteon subsid group of Acer of Taiwan?"
Replied: "Bestbuy Own them"
I just smile and walk away.....

Similar issue happened at Fry's when I was buying the refurbish HP DV8000 notebook.
I asked " how much is extra 512MB DDR RAM?"
Replied: " it is about $100, but you must buy in Pair, otherwise, it will NOT work!"
I asked: "so what am I going to do w/ my 512MB already in the notebook?"
Replied: "you can sell it at ebay"
I also smile and walk away.....

2 days ago, I went to CompUSA for GPS device.
I asked "why does Garmin C330 still so expensive and cost more than TomTom one?"
Replied: " because Garmin has much better recieving power and better map"
I asked "Isn't TomTom one using the SiRF III GPS chipset?"
Replied: "oh, that chipset is very slow and it is older technology than Garmin C330"
Again, I smile and walk away.....

One of the management types who was in the store I visited on Tuesday said it took about 90 days to close the stores from the last round and he thought they were aiming for 60 days with these. I figure it will be at least 2 more weeks before prices drop enough to make it worth my time to go back.

I'm wondering if the deals will be less than spectacular since they are not going out of business? Anywho, if anyone sees the percentage discount go up please let us know!!! I want to avoid the 40-minute ride to compusa!

Having worked at Comp, I had one of my buddies tuck away a 22'' Gateway widescreen for me...I figure in a month or so, that baby should be crazy delicious.

Yeah, I'm waiting for Q3 as well... I don't think CompUSA is going to match the value we see then. Good things come to those who wait!

Then 20% after a week or so, down to about 40% then they move on to another location and take what didn't sell with them or unload it via a quick wholesale auction. Almost a total waste of time for any normal consumer.

I just stopped by the Woodbury, MN location. Your comments appear accurate from my observation. 10% discounts abounded. I looked through the place for an hour and nothing spoke to me so I left.

Be careful about some of the prices there. Before it was announced they would be closing some of their stores I was looking at their hard drives comparing prices and remembered one drive at $114.99. I went back yesterday and that same drive was now $149.99

Don't know if this has been noted but any sales at other stores that are staying open do not apply to the stores that are closing.

Went today, and still nothing exciting. 5%-10% off most things. Only thing i saw for 30% off was computer cases. Still not a good deal with compuseless' already crap prices.

Don't forget, all sales final, you are NOT buying from Compusa, you are buying from a Liquidator that will poof in couple months. 5 minutes from Compusa I have half a dozen different stores that will cheerfully give me a full refund up to like 30 days, will price match if stuff goes on sale. Also some items only have a warranty through the seller, which means no warranty. Until there is more like a 20% REAL savings I don't see the value as breaking even considering the downside.

That is SOP.

They all jack up prices to MSRP, then have 'Clearance' deals that are no better than what they have been selling off.
You have to wait until the last week before they real try to get rid of the stuff. Then again, all the good stuff, they already shipped to warehouses to sell online.

I called the location in Glendale, CA today. I asked the guy what the discount on the CPU & mobos was. He said, "I believe it is 10-15%". I said, "Is that accurate?" He said, "Yes!"

I hung up.

The cashier's have also been instructed to black out the bar codes, which means you probably wont be able to return it at a different retailer...

Obviously, you haven't been paying attention or just don't understand. CompUSA is now in no way connected with the stores that are closing. The closing stores are being managed by a liquidator, not CompUSA.

Hence, you are buying goods essentially as-is/where-is from the liquidator, not CompUSA......and the goods should be treated like open box items from Newegg. You'll most likely get the manufacturer to honor their warranty on their product, but some may balk because it was not purchased from an "authorized retailer" but from a liquidation seller.....just like buying at an auction.

And this is why some of the items will have their bar codes blacked out.....the product is no longer seen as a retail product but as a off-market, liquidated item, a lot like a surplus item or a returned item or the like.

My point is that CompUSA will not take returns without a receipt anyway so what?s the point of blacking out barcodes? If you try to go to another CompUSA store they will not take the return if they look at the receipt. Also, I recently bought some items and although it says 'ALL SALES FINALS' on the front of the receipt this contradicts the back of the receipt with their standard return policy.

I'd also like to know where all this info about off market, liquidators etc. is posted at CompUSA stores? All it says is that all sales are final?

PS..i do admit fault for not adding value to this thread in the form of an update of deals at compusa stores...
