Drove by the one in San Jose, saw someone holding a sign for 20%. Couldn't read the details, but I'm guessing it was up to 20% off, not 20% off everything.

Originally posted by: slashbinslashbash And for those without a Fry's nearby (I live in a Fry's-inhabited area now, but I used to live out in the boonies) the stores take on an almost mythical quality.

Speaking of mythical, What adds to that for first-timers is that some (most?) of them have 'themes,' at least the ones I've been to in California. For example the San Jose store has an Aztec-type thing going, one in LA has a spacecraft crashed into the roof, etc. I always wondered if most of the others, especially out of state, do the same thing.

Yes, most of them have a theme: Wikipedia entry for Fry's Electronics

The one that I usually go to (Arlington, Texas) is old and crappy. I guess it used to be an Incredible Universe store. The decor (or lack thereof) is horrible. The Plano and Irving stores are shiny and new and quite nice-looking, though. I wish they'd spend the money to upgrade the Arlington store... or build one in Fort Worth.

edit: reading more about the themes, I'd really like to check out some of the stores in California. The "themes" here in Texas (and the Las Vegas store, IIRC) basically consist of large murals near the entrance. There aren't any elaborate props or anything like that. Still very nice interiors, though.

Looking at the CompUSA website I guess they don't carry the ATI TV Wonder 650. About the only thing I thought about picking up cheap(er).

The Fremont CA store (#21 I think), is modeled after 1893 worlds fair. They have a full sized Tesla Coil in a Faraday cage that goes off several times a day in the store as an exhibition. Pretty impressive but this thing is so noisy that I need to stand far away. Seen it so many times I hardly even pay attention to it when it goes off.

Here's link to see what it looks like. Tesla Coil at Fry's Fremont
Scroll down, it's the 3rd and 4th pics.

Will my rebates still going to be honored I wonder? I was thinking about that nice laptop backpack for $9.99 AR.

I had to chuckle when I read about Compusa closing all it's stores here on Long Island.
I've been boycotting them since 2001 when they treated me badly over some gift cards my wife gave me that they failed to authorize properly when purchased.
Good riddance...

Both of the ones in Columbus, Ohio, are closing. Manager said less than sixty days.

Just came back from Union, NJ store. Most stuff are 10% off. Movies 20% off. Laptops and computers are 5% off. Cases are 20% off (not many)

I was looking at the laptop with the 200$ rebate but they don't honor current Compusa sales.

Going to wait this one out. There's still a lot of inventory and the prices are still insanely high.

Picked up some photo paper 20% off and a shrek 2 dvd for $3.98. They also had case fans and ink for 20% off so picked up one of each. Do you think it will get to 50%? If so I may just have to go and find a nice place to hide a couple of ink cartridges to go back and get them at 50%.

Will the website honor the TAP I purchased on my video card? The closest store to me is in Bakersfield, some 120 miles away.

Just hit Totem Lake, WA store. Most stuff is 10% off. Only things that I would consider this a good/decent deal:

Playstation 3 60GB Version - $599 - Now $539
Windows Vista Ultimate (Full) - $399 - Now $359

All cases and power supplies were 20% off, along with ipod accessories and a couple other useless stuff.

I work a block away, so will check back weekly over the next 2-3 weeks.

I think $20 is the new MSRP for BF2. Was a thread about it last week I believe. The BF2 Ultimate collection set or w/e is set to release today or tomorrow for $40 MSRP.

Some potentially good deals out there though, mainly on items like the ones Codeyf listed (ie. stuff that never goes on sale normally). 20-25% off a PS3 or Vista Ultimate would be pretty hot imo....just need to wait and see if that ever happens.

Hey guys, just stopped by the CompUSA in Tustin Marketplace, Tustin, CA. Not too many good deals as many have already stated. Most stuff was 10% off the already high retail prices. I'll check back again in a few weeks.

Anyhow, I also noticed that all motherboards were 30% off.

I saw that they had a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-965P-DS3 - I'm pretty sure) there for $149.99. After discount it should be $104.99 + tax. According to the following thread this may possibly be a good deal!

I'm not really sure about the revision but I'm sure you can call and ask.

You overestimate CompUSA employees. They're only slightly more knowledgable than those at Fry's.

Fry's must be pretty poor then.
