my parents had snakes come up through the toilet once in a really old house. That's kind of a scary thought come to think of it....

Edit: this was with a septic tank too. I guess that would rule out rats but not snakes.

In our house in Trinidad, we had a frog come up into the toilet from the septic tank I assume.

In the house I used to live in we were on a septic tank. :Q

It was in California, many years ago. I happened to look down and see a HUGE, black spider. I leapt off the seat just and it leapt after me. I know it sounds sort of amusing in retrospect, but I was scared to death. You have NEVER heard a louder scream (and believe me I have some lungpower). Now I regularly check the inside of bowls and slam the lid first to make SURE there is nothing in the toilet. My husband thinks it's funny when I peer under the lid before sitting but he understands.

Now you have to check for spiders AND frogs!

I hate frogs. They are nasty. I was afraid of frogs coming up for weeks, but no more did. It may have went down the vent or something... I don't think frogs can survive in a septic tank!

Thank god I live in NY. Spiders don't go cross-country right?
