Guys, I've recently bought a notebook off EGAY for 1.5k. The seller had 1 feedback and he was auctioning a couple other notebooks at the same time. He offers COD to all buyers which suppose to be good for the buyer side. However, I'm concerned that after I hand out my payment (MO) to the mail man, in case I find out something wrong/suspicious about the notebook, and that he's a potential scammer, I have no way trace my back my money?
Can I open up the box before giving the MO to the mail man to make sure that the item i'm recieving is legit?
And if i find out that i'm really being scam, can i just tell the mail man that i do not accept the package and ask him to send it back to the seller?
May i ask what are some of the alternative to protect myself against this kind of the potential fraud?
Thank you in advance for your input.

the delivery person should be able to let you open it, why buy something before inspecting?

Agreed, I would NOT risk $1.5k in order to save $100-$200!

because i realize some suspicious thing about the seller.
such as the picture of the auction were not actually picture taken by himself, instead, he copied them off some review websites, which looked like he himself did it.
another thing is that he claims the notebook still have 1 year of warranty on it, but on model from last year (made in fall 2004), i doubt that he has extended warranty, which kinda make me feel fishy 'bout him.

Egay?

No wonder... I recommend Ebay.com for your next online auction purchase.

Yeah, but i'd like to see you pack up your desktop and carry it around in your backpack while you are at classes.

the package may arrive anytime tomorrow so i'm stuck right here trying to figure out what to do.. -__-
should i just reject the package in the first place without even inspecting it and have it ship back to the seller? that saves me headaches in exchange for 1 negative feedback..

Trust your instinct. Obviously you are having major doubts about him, so if I were you, I would not take the package because it is 1,500 we are talking about here. Compared that to 1 negative feedback and you got your answer =).

He's saying you can get a Dell laptop that is completely loaded for less than that.

Inspect it first before making payment.

Explain to the delivery person why.

No inspection, no $$.

How you would verify the warrenty, I do not know. You would have to know who is responsible for it and call with the serial number or contract number.

If you wish to follow through, delay acceptance for 1-2 days and find out about the warranty. Get contact information/details from the seller and verify.

As others indicated for that amount of $$, you had better be getting something better than what is currently available ...

... to compensate for the inherent risk.

Based on what you have stated and indicatcated, you feel that something is wrong. Best to walk away from the deal. If fnegatvie eedback is generated, respond with your concerns about the item.

which part of the role does EBAY play in such cases?
say that the sellers scammed away a few thousands dollar and walked out after cancelling his/her account?

why don't you think of these things before you bid? and if you give $1500 cod, please don't waste the bandwidth posting about how you got ripped off and how ebay won't protect people from such idiocy.

You are not allowed to open the box before paying the driver for the C.O.D. Your best bet would be to pay with a check and cancel payment on it, if there are problems. Otherwise, just don't accept delivery.
