I had to deal with this a lot, but I haven't had problems in a long time. Just a few minutes ago, I was defragging my documents partition, which resides on my RAID 5 array, and moving files from \downloads to where they actually begin on my storage partition (which is also resides on the RAID 5 array).
I then get an error saying disk 3 has gone offline, and the array has gone critical. Still functioning, but if one more drive failed, everything would be gone.
I went and immediately turned the computer off, checked the normal stuff, cables and everythign else. Turned it back on, drive was there and fine, and proceeded to get the array to start rebuilding (yay 12 hour wait).
Here is my list of equipment and what PSU they are powered off of...
PSU 1 (Enermax 660w)
-SuperMicro X5DAE mobo
-dual Xeon 2.66 GHz
-4x512mb PC2100 DIMMs
-2xPanaflo M1A fans (on the procs)
-2xCoolerMaster Cool Drive 3
-2xWestern Digital 120gb PATA hd
-Audigy 2 Gamer
-BroadCom 4852 RAID controller
-BFG 6800 GT OC (through AGP only)
PSU2 (Enermax 460w)
-BFG 6800 GT OC (aux power only)
-5xHitachi 250gb SATA hd
-Plextor 48X/24X/48X CD-RW
-8xcase fans (80mm, 2600 rpm, 33db, 48.5 cfm)
-2xcase fans (120mm AC Ryan, 2.8W, 2k rpm, 28.95 db, 77.70 cfm)
-had a dual 12" cold cathode which was just removed
I know this is a shot in the dark, but any ideas?
CLIFFS:
1. Look at above list.
2. HD dropped out during heavy-ish hd usage
3. Possibly overtaxing 460w PSU?
Tas.
