I suspect we'll step back and wait and may well decide to not strike at all. If we do strike it's likely to be a round of cruise missiles and perhaps some stealth strikes along with some drone strikes over a period of a few days. i simply don't see it going much further than that.

There aren't a lot of good option here as the likely beneficiary will be an Al Qaeda affiliated group so why help them.

Newsmax is highly biased and more of a partisan rumormonger site then a true news site.

Agree...the military will do what they are told to do...however stupid it may be.

However dumb a strike on Syria might be, what amounts to a military coup would be vastly, vastly worse. I would expect everyone to collectively work to bring any military commanders to justice who dared try and challenge civilian control of the military. It is one of the most important bedrock principles of our society.

Iran will do nothing significant. They might try some behind the scenes stuff but that's it. Neither Russia nor Iran would directly confront the US.

Personally, I think Israel would welcome a strike by Iran (or attempted strike). Gives them a chance/excuse to go after Iran's nuke program.

Even better if Iran launched something on Israel AND on one or more of our warships. That would guarantee Iran received some airmail, but hopefully no ground shipments...

Iran does not really have the capability except by proxy of taking on Israel.
Hamas has not recovered from their last mishap.
Hezbollah may have recovered, but I would suspect do not want another go around. Their resupply lines are cut off.

Syria has its internal problems.

So no proxy.

No Iranian Air force that has strike capability.
Iran has no sea power in the Med or Red Sea

No adjacent land border. Any attempt to transport troops would require overpowering a hostile country (Iraq), cohering neutral countries or rolling through Syria. All perfectly visible to satellite surveillance and air strikes.

So what is left is attempted missile strikes or hot air.

The latter is most likely.

Regarding Iran, that nation has the potential to one day be a modern, West-friendly democracy with smoking hot women. Let us not wish death and destruction on them, especially know that the true ass hats would be safe in their shelters.
