Possible to mod my 9800Pro?

Just wondering if it's at all possible to increase the performance on my 9800Pro card. I think I've got it slightly OC'd through BIOS but I'm not really sure cause I'm still a n00b when it comes to this stuff. But I was just wondering how I could go about OC'ing the card, or soft modding it possibly to an XT or what have you.

What did you do in bios to overclock the card? If you changed the AGP speed, that's not going to change performance, so it should be left at 66MHz. I recommend downloading powerstrip or ati tool and overclocking your card. Happy holidays. ATITool and Powerstrip

Yea I changed the AGP speed to 70mhz, I know it's not much but yea I wasn't really sure what to expect from it.

I'm assuming I can get Ati tool from their website? I have the latest catalyst drivers as well if that makes any difference. What would be good number to shoot for on stock cooling while still being stable?

You cannot get ATitool from their website. Use the link JSS posted (which he may have edited in after you posted)
ATi is not going to provide overclocking tools like that.

Personally, I use Radlinker, but anything works.

Keep you AGP speed at 66Mhz, you should onlyo/c core and memory on your video card.

I wouldn't risk a softmod, just push it with standard o/c, most cards can easily reach XT speeds and beyond. Just don't push it too hard.

Ok, I used ATi Tool and reached 413 core and 788 mem. without any artifacts, is that a good OC from a stock 9800Pro 128meg 256-bit?

at 413/394, it's a pretty good overclock.., it's pretty much XT speed.

The 9800Pro o.c's well but you need to have a good core (R360 instead of R350) and good Memory (Hynix instead of the other ones). Ati tools usually tells you what you have in a documents generated for the card I think, you can check for yourself as well though, just look at the memory (if i has no heat-spreaders on it) and for the core tis a bit harder since you need to take off the cooler.

From what I read you must have 1 of the two ( both I have found only in my MSI 9800Pro tha clocked way beyond the XT speeds ).

But still XT speed aint bad considering the card costs almost half the price!

Also if oyu get a new cooler for it ( Artic cooling etx, -Just like the one HIS is putting on its cards ) you can go higher than that as well + stick some cooper heatspreaders on the memory modules as well and go even higher cheap mods but effective if you desperately need more power!

I ordered the MSI 9800Pro cause I heard they sometimes come clocked at XT speeds out of the box, but unfortunately the retailer I purchased it from was out of stock, so they gave me the VisionTek 9800Pro for the same price (193-201), but the VisionTek has the R350 core. Regardless, having XT speeds at half the price is good enough for me. Although, I do plan to get an artic cooler for it to lower card temps and case temps as well.
