So let me get this straight, the Opterons are indeed not going to be sold to any sites like Newegg.com and ZZF but only to builders of servers and high end workstations?

Tanks said it (ex I beleive he used was SuperMicro BareBones becoming the primary use for them)
The disconinuation notices were for retail
(They very likely will assign new product IDs and may completely discontinue box'd versions)

They're not discontinuing anything. That was just posted a few links up. The Opterons are staying around. What I'm asking is if the rumor of them not selling to most retail outlets is fact or fiction.

...You are misreading that.

AMD denies phase out.

That is completely different than discontinuing a product to a certain market.
(In other words they are discontinuing the availability to retail markets HOWEVER they are NOT stoping production and beging a phase out for a newer product (M2))

Edit: I could be wrong too...But I'm seeing this as a constant message that is being misunderstood. I believe the are doing their best to kill retail sales due to canabalization of higher margin products. HOWEVER they wish to continue to use this product for inroads into lower cost servers so they are limiting availabilty to certain trusted OEMs in the server market field. The recent announcement is an attempt to quell rumors that this is a phase out for a new product (if they let this rumor live, more people would stop buying and wait for the new product)
