Tweakin, you should get a CABYE 0540 FPBW, what mobo do you plan to use with the processor?

Thank Gawd I got my Opty 170 before it got discontinued, I saw my receipt from mWAVE.com recently and saw this: "Discontinued on 11/25---AMD OPTERON 170 2.0GHZ DUAL CORE W/1MB X 2 CACHE 90NM 64-BIT SOCKET 939 RETAIL BOXED W/COOLING FAN (3 YEARS WARRANTY)"
Too bad, I wanted to build another PC for a friend using an Opty, but alas good things don't last too long.

Looks like Monarch no longer has the 146 in stock.. they list an ETA of 12/16 with no guarantees.

Thanks to this thread, I got my 146 CABYE 0540 FPAW from them in time, now running @ 2900MHz 1.48V with quiet 7-volted cooling. Kudos to TankGuys.

I have been looking at the Asus and Sapphire ATi boards, but I just verified with Monarch that they are all dried up...too little too late

I didn't bother to read through the pages, but has there been any update/confirmation about what was stated in the first post? Can you possibly post an update on the first post Tank?

Thanks!

I just got off the phone with one of my distributor reps, and he said he spoke with an AMD field rep about the 1XX opterons.

He said the AMD guy told him that there will indeed be no more shipments through retailers or distributors. Only full systems integrators will get them from now on, for us in pre-built high end server configurations.

The reasoning, so the story goes, is that AMD is pushing for the deliniation between product lines, and they want A64's filling the desktop role, and Opterons filling the server role, PERIOD. Thus, they will only ship to parties who plan to build the opterons into actual servers.

While this still confuses me (i.e. if you want them as servers, why release on the 939 platform?) it's the best information I have up to this point, and does explain why *none* of the distributors have anymore of these, and why thier previously scheduled shipments have failed to appear.

I still can't say for absolute sure that this is definitely going to happen, but all signs are pointing that way now. I'll keep you guys up to date when/if I hear more as well.

That was a week ago (page 5)

As of this minute, Monarch has 3 146 oem's and 7 148 oem's in stock as I just got off the phone with them. Didn't ask about the 148 retails.....there drying up.....

Hopefully I'm luckier this time then last.

That's stupid.... why wouldn't they be anything less than thrilled that their products are selling so well?

Maybe there's a higher profit margin in the Athlon64s and Athlon64 X2s?

Alternatively, maybe they don't like the fact that the enthusiasts are getting over on them.

I hope so...I ordered a 146 and a 148 hoping that one or the other is in stock. My previous order for a retail 146 went south. Just checked my cc to see what is available and my available credit doesn't match what it should be if they were in stock and ordered...what a loss.

Monarch has the 144 retails back in stock for $148. I ordered one around noon today. I really like their new reduced shipping rates. $5 for two day express isn't too shabby. I don't think too horribly of them now

Gah, I jumped on one of the 148's for $234 shipped. Would have bought the 144 for $151 had I seen it (diff of $83). Oh well. I figure the 11x over the 9x is worth about $50 or $60 to me anyway.

In the meantime, the prices for the 148s have started to increase at Monarch. It's $11.50 higher now than when I ordered late last night. I wonder if these babies will be all gone by the end of the year.

Yeah, I was going to order either a 146 off eBay, or the OEM 148 off Monarch for ~$200. The 146 on eBay skyrockted in price when it was sniped, so I went over to Monarch and noticed they listed the 144 as in stock, at the bottom of the page of opterons. It was almost like they were trying to be sneaky about it so few people would notice it. I was still waiting on my 146 from Tankguys, which is in some sort of limbo P), so I got the itchy purchasing finger

Absolutely not! My neice wanted that board and an Opteron 146. The 146 could clock to 2.85GHz on air on a A8N32-SLI, but the Asrock board limited it to 2.33GHz stable with 1T MA, and boards max HTT limited it to 2.74GHz 2T MA.

Absolutely WRONG! You need to flash the motherboard with one of the OCW overclocking BIOS's in order to get above 274 HTT. There are LOTS of people overclocking their Opterons on the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2.

System will not post if I set HTT higher than 274MHz, why?
BIOS v1.20 AND NEWER have a ?block? on HTT, max working HTT you can get is 274MHz. If you want to get around that problem, use BIOS OCWBeta1. We have seen OCWBeta1 BIOS go as high as 400 HTT.

BIOS with HTT capped @ 274
- v1.20
- v1.30
- v1.40
- OCWBeta3 <- It's based on BIOS v1.40, so YES, it has the cap.

BIOS without HTT cap
- OCWBeta1 <- cpu speed on POST screen is wrong, you have to check cpu speed in windows.
- OCWBeta2 ? <- I have not tried this myself, can someone confirm it?
