Possible warning on Opty 144/146/148 Etc...

I guess it was my lucky day...called Monarch to confirm the status and it looks like I have the last 146 and148 OEM in stock...shipping out today. She also said the backorders are building and they are scrambling to get more...talk about a rush!

Has anyone bought an OEM 146 from Monarch recently? What kind of steppings are they giving out these days?

Help me out with some info here guys.
I usually shop at Newegg and just want to be sure.

When i go to Monarchs site and enter my order number to check my status it says. "Your order has been submitted to the warehouse for processing. Shipping from this point typically takes 1-2 business days after the order has been approved. Our shipping system will automatically email you your tracking number when your order has been shipped."

So i'm good to go?... i won't be getting any emails saying something like my order is on hold due to backorder or anything?

Nope your order is being processed. I had both of my orders in three days instead of the 5-7 they show there.

Nope as in i could still be told my ordered item is not in stock?

Nope as in they have the item in stock and are getting it ready for shipment and i definately wont be getting an email saying its on backorder?

In my experience, once you get that message, you're good to go. Just have to be patient and wait for your tracking number.

And the site said the 148 / retails were in stock at the time i placed the order.

My order went in at 2:00PM on Wed.(EST) This is the third time I've tried to get an Opty...anyway, hopefully she was wrong and there are more.

"This prolly should end up as a sticky, but that's up to the mods.

1.) I was informed today by Avnet, AMD's Tier 1 distributor for their processors, that AMD was cracking down on sales of s939 Opterons.

2.) This essentially means that only smaller ISVs (Integrated Service Vendors), VARs (Value Added Resellers), and System Builders would be allowed access to AMD stocking of these processors.

3.) Newegg, et al. will be effectively removed from the OEM processor sales of s939 Opterons. My district manager did not specify if this was also the case for retail procs, but he did emphasize that Newegg would not be getting these parts.

4.) AMD will be drop shipping all Opteron s939 parts. This is part inventory control and part screening. AMD has to approve each company/person for accessing these parts.

so, word to the wise: get 'em while you can. it's going to get a LOT tougher now.

I had the same thing going on with my 148 retail order. It took 2 days, but I just now got my tracking number from them. Fedex 2-day, it's here on monday!!!!

I'm glad I just got my Opteron 175 from Monarch, it was a good deal, OEM $470ish shipped. I was going to go for the X2 4400+, but the 175 was cheaper than that! so why not get it? It was $20 more than the 170.

With the help of Jason over at the Micro Mart forum I managed to find a supplier in the UK ,& it turned out they were just a 15min drive away!

Anyway I got a 146 for £118 ,its a CABYE 0543 FPMW.
Incidently the guy showed me a tray of 0545 CABNE's ........I just about stopped the drool

So I gather the CABYEs are a good stepping?

Just received my 148 from Monarch. CABYE 0540FPBW. I ordered my Ultra-D at the same day (one hour later) but it didn't come so I called them - and guess what, they didn't even ship it!? The rep was like, "Eh.. why is it.. I'll take care of it right now" So I told him not to bother and cancelled the order. I had to order my Opty from them because there were none elsewhere, but I sometimes find Monarch's shipping/handling clumsy. No update on order process, shipping late, or in this case, not shipping untill you call 5 days later!

One more thing: I thought the retail Opties come with the heatpipe-version HSF? My HSF is a plane old non-heatpipe version..

Dual core optys have the pipes, thems is hot sumbitches (consume 110 watts). The single cores are much cooler. Remember the retail cpu's are not meant to be OC, hence the included wimpy heatsinks (except for the dualies, AMD knows these pups get hot)
