.. But the only other option is AT&T DSL. If I could get U-Verse service I probably wouldn't question it. But I've been having some billing problems, and some weird charges. After we moved they kept the line at the old apartment running for a month and sent us a bill for it. Granted, they fixed it instantly and issued a credit, it still shouldn't have happened.

I'm also faced with my router spazzing out after a day and having to be reset because of the TERRIBLE ARP STORMS. I tried to call tech support, but you know the deal there, they have no idea what I'm talking about.. but I've taken the courses and put I the hours for CCNA, and 5,000-7,000 ARP packets in 2 minutes is nowhere near normal. The techs are worthless, replacing a modem doesn't work (3 times), because its their network, and should technically be filtered at their closet.

Ontop of that... thinking about signing up for Netflix, but the 250GB/mo limit would be a huge cripple.. some would say 250Gb is 'a lot'.. I say nay.. Netflix is around 1.5-1.7Gb/hr for HD media.. and most of the content I would be viewing is in HD.. that 250Gb doesn't last very long.

So has anyone used ATT DSL before.. prefrerably, Central IL Area?

Sorry if this doesn't exactly belong here, it just seems to be the most fitting.

ATT DSL down here in florida is horrible, Atleast compared to the cable. They block all 25 unless its going to there mail servers. Its 74 hops from fiber it seems, And there fastest speed is 6/768 where the cable is 15/2.
I had uverse in addition to the cable at my old house, the bandwidth was there 18/1.5 but it suffered the same long trace route issue.
I'll say, Ive never had luck with ANY tech support when it came to a advanced question (BGP routing), Be it cable or ATT they are just reading a script and are there to make you happy. The best people worked with was TW Telecom in reference to a bandwidth issue on a gig circuit at work (Work for a ISP).
And 250gb, Yeah thats a joke for any real user, I constantly use 500+gb a month. Used 2.3TB one month.

I don't have U-verse, but I hear the latency is a little more than cable. It isn't that big of a deal I guess but some picky gamers might mind. Also ATT is testing caps from 50-150GB (even worse than Comcast's). They had trials in Reno and Texas, google it. I am not sure how that is coming along. It is not everywhere just those two markets for now. Not sure if these caps apply to ATT DSL. I don't have any experience with ATT DSL. Most people around me have Comcast cable. A while ago I knew some people that had ATT DSL 1.5 Mbps pack. It is not guaranteed 1.5 Mbps. I think they got 768K max. Of course this is a distance limitation. I would check how far away you are before ordering. You might only get low speeds.
I am in the Chicago area.

I have dry-loop AT&T DSL 3MB down. I think it's great. I've never had any problems with it. My download speed is always 2.6MB; it doesn't fluctuate or throttle whatsoever. I'm thinking about upgrading to the 6MB connection that just became available in my area.

Yeah I'm starting to find a few sources where AT&T is looking into caps, it really bothers me that they're allowed to enforce that kind of a limitation with the amount of media there is on the internet, as compared to Comcast's FCC battle for torrents. It seems as if they're limiting the allowance because each company has its own 'rental' feature for their cable service.
