I normally overclock 103% (been running for months). I left my computer on @108 and it went off overnight. Now the power supply doesn't go on. Doesn't it need a signal from the MB to turn on? I tried disconnecting various power sources, but that is no help,eh? Is there a way to tell if I fried the motherboard or the CPU?

I am running all custom fans, so I know there could have been cooling issues

ASUS A8n SLI prem
seasonic ss 500
think I have 3200 CPU, I forget.. heh

If there is a CLRCMOS jumper near to the battery, then at the moment it is on 1-2.
Take the power away from the system.
Change the jumper to 2-3.
Change back to 1-2.
Power back on.

If there is no cmos jumper, or you can't find it, then disconnect the power, take out the battery for a few seconds, put it back in, then restart.
If that doesn't work,
Try leaving the battery out for 20 minutes.
Then retry.

The asus manual says clearing CMOS isnt necessary after a shutdown due to overclocking. It says there is a CPU parameter reset feature that just requires a reboot.

I did it anyway, along with reseating the CPU and I still have nothing.

The short will test the psu's ability to start, but won't measure the voltage on the rails.
If you have a multimeter handy, that will test the rails, but, only if you get an incredibly bad reading will it mean anything.
If you get good readings, it might be that the multimeter isn't picking up momentary fluctuations. Or, it could be that your psu is good........

Okay, gettiing 0V on every pin. Shorting GRN to ground does nothing.

I have every power sink disconnected (except fans).

So, Do PSUs generally have warranties to cover all uses?

I really don't think the power supply would die like that. Isn't this uncommon?

thanks,
jeremy

0V bad.

Can you check that the fuse in the power cable hasn't been blown - better still, try a new power cable.

The plug on the end of the cable has a fuse in it, the same as the plug on your kettle, printer, computer, etc etc

well, it cannot be blown, or I wouldn't have buzzed it out..

so.. try a new PSU?

will seasonic repair/replace the current one?
