In the last two weeks or so I have started to feel really exhausted and definetly have increased thirst, and many of the other type 2 diabetes symptoms. I am in no way in shape and haven't been in quite some time. I currently weigh in at 262lb and I am 32 yrs old and 5'9" tall.

Obviously I will get my blood sugar tested and confirm my diagnosis, but I would really like to start now and do what I have been saying I would for the last 10 years.

My questions are:

1) anything specific I should eat or stay away from to help me both lose weight and not spike sugar levels? (I can figure out the obvious ones.. I mean things that will help me regulate blood sugar)

2) what should I start out with and for how long for exercise?

thanks for any help I can get.

The enemy in diabetes is not really sugar but carbohydrates. Reducing the amount of carbs you injest will make a huge difference in your A1C. Type II diabetes can be controlled with diet alone. If at all possible try to control it with diet. Diabetes medication will make it almost impossible to lose weight once on them.

What you're saying is not quite correct. Many times, you're right - diabetes can be corrected for with diet changes, weight loss, and exercise. However, it frequently isn't. Insulin resistance can be a permanent thing, especially depending on how long you've had it and your genetics. Frequently, it cannot be addressed with diet and exercise. That's why it's best to avoid getting it in the first place. Prevention is more effective than secondary treatment.

OP: Do you exercise at all? If you're completely sedentary then even a modest amount of exercise should make a big difference in your health.
