I just bought ticketmaster tickets from someone off cragslist, and long story short, I think they are stolen. Can I take them to a ticketmaster and have them scanned to check? Walmart is the only official ticketmaster broker in my area, does anyone know if they'll be able to do it?

How would scanning them check if they're stolen or not? If it's a real ticket then it'll work for anybody... it doesn't magically know if somebody else took it from the original owner. Do you mean check if it's a FAKE ticket? You might be able to get them to compare it to the real tickets to see if it's off, but I think you won't know for sure till you get to the event. Actually, the venue itself might be your best bet in finding out if it's real or not.

Because they would be reported as stolen, same thing as when I show up to the event and get it scanned. The event is an hour flight and another hour drive.

You have nothing to lose by checking on them.

You should be able to do that over the phone.

what makes you think they are stolen?

The guy claimed he had only two tickets in his ad and is selling multiple sets. The tickets are expensive and one would not buy multiple sets; especially the type of guy he is.

I thought you could scratch the surface of the ticket and it's supposed to show grey?

Ah, I didn't know they had a report as stolen option.

Yeah, the tickets look to be legitimate. They are exactly like the event tickets.

They can be real tickets and still be denied entry, though. They could have been lost or stolen from an individual or dealer, and if they were reported so, they will be denied entry at the gate.

The guy was shady as hell. It's a gut feeling I have because of the way the transaction took place. I also contacted him afterwards with two different phone numbers and he was still willing to sell me tickets. I was hesitant when I met him.... shouldn't have gone through with it in the first place.

I called Ticketmaster, though, and there is absolutely no way for them to tell me anything over the phone or at one of their locations. The only way to find out if those tickets will get me in is at the event. So I'm flying 450 miles (which I'm doing regardless, so no big deal), then driving 20 minutes, taking a train for an hour, then a bus for 20 minutes, all with chance that these tickets will be denied. I'm fairly certain that they will be. Weak.

Long story short? More like no story at all. What makes you think they're fake?

I'll break it down quickly -

- guy was like 40 minutes late meeting me (I think because he lied about where he lived)
- he showed up out of nowhere at the meeting location (like a fucking ninja)
- he was high as fuck
- he gave me the receipt he received with the order, which was a photocopy of what looked like some bullshit recepit
- after I paid him, a car pulled up and picked him up; it was an old shitty car with a dealer plate
- I sent him texts from two additional phones asking for tickets and he said he still had them available even though his ad said he had one pair and he had just sold them to me, he also said he would be at work when I wanted to pick them up and was really shady during the whole text conversation about where he lived and worked. He finally gave me the address of a McDonald's about 30 minutes from where he told me he lived in my original conversation with him. He didn't say McDonald's, though, he just gave an address.
- he is not the kind of guy who would have bought tickets at all, let alone several pairs, to this concert event

None of these things alone would make me think they aren't legit, all of the together, however..... Hopefully he's just a stupid stoner who had several pairs of tickets, but I have a strong feeling I'm SOL.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, Beck, Metallica, Of Monsters and Men, Regina Spektor, Stevie Wonder, and lots of others.

I'm not going just for the concert, I'm going for a three-day bachelor party. That is going to be one of the days.

Is the guy selling above face value?
Maybe he just resells for profit.

Nope, face value. A little cheaper when accounting for transaction fees, actually. That's not suspicious though, imo. The event starts tomorrow and a lot of people who bought the tickets and live in Los Angeles are bailing last minute and can't make the trip to San Francisco. It's not hard to get the tickets at a little discount right now.

So now I'm pretty positive they aren't legit. The date of sale on the receipt is 3 months prior to the date they even went on sale. So, I have two options -

1. Go meet with him again and tell this little bitch to give me my money back. The risk of getting murdered is there, since he has that car with him and all.

2. Accept getting scammed and don't risk missing my flight in a few hours.

Or try to get the police involved.

Yeah, there isn't really a whole lot of time. If I do that I will miss my flight for sure. I think I'm gonna have to eat this one.

All I have is an untraceable cell number, probably prepaid, and the name of the dealer where the car was purchased, so can't really do anything when I get back.

No, let one of your friends call him not you since your voice could be familiar by this time. Agree to meet in public somewhere, but let your friend tag along, don't show yourself at first, stay nearby. First describe the person to your friend so he/she can verify (via texting). One perp shows up (alone if possible), show up an demand refund. Good luck. Update us is/when possible.

Maybe he got them from work and they're supposed to go to employees only, or for salesmen entertaining clients, won them in a raffle, etc. Plenty of plausible reasons that he might act shady. Also, selling stuff on Craigslist is the only chance most people get to act like a CIA agent.

"You wait in the car. After 4 minutes circle the block once and come get me. If anything goes wrong, I'll turn my hat around. If we get split up, we'll meet up at the Whammie Burger later."

If there was more time that's exactly what I'd do. I leave for the airport in two hours though, and he's an hour drive round trip.
