I don't have a start button replacement.
Frankly, it's not necessary imho. I've adapted just fine.
Same here, though currently my desktop is down until this weekend as I'm rebuilding it.
I've been using Windows 8 since developer preview, through consumer and release candidate, and purchased it a few months ago. Had a Surface RT for a few months before selling it, too. I have no problems switching between Metro/Modern and desktop. Some things like control panel split (which should be fixed by Blue/8.1 I think) aren't ideal, but it's been fine.
Metro is definitely a boon for tablets and touch enabled laptops, and desktop it's pretty much a non-issue - it doesn't really help a ton (unless you have ADHD, and like the full screen focus of metro apps), but you can effectively ignore it and live in the desktop. With explorer, run command, and shortcuts, I don't really need the classic start menu.
I'm not sure if I'll enable start button when 8.1 comes out. I'm flexible, it doesn't matter either way to me. I routinely use Ubuntu, XP, Windows Vista and 7, and Windows 8. The initial 2 weeks of Windows 8 was an adjustment, and rightly so considering how big a change it was versus older versions of Windows, but I think if you don't force yourself to adapt you will probably hate it. I remember hating the ribbon for Office when it came out, but now I appreciate how condensed it is versus having menus branching out all over the place.
