It's my first messagge, so Hi to all!

Here's a little freeware command line tool I'm developing: TrID.
It can recognize a file type without looking at his name or extension, but searching for some binary signatures/patterns.
I think it could be handy when you download a mis-named file from somewhere, or don't know what application procuded some file, and so on.

The Data Base of file types is XML based and extensible, so I'm looking for someone's efforts to contribute and expanding it (credits will be given on the following URL). Here's the actual list of supported/knowed files: http://mark0.ngi.it/soft-trid-deflist.html
And here's the home page for TrID: http://mark0.ngi.it/soft-trid-e.html

Any comment welcomed!

Bye!

QCD Player 4.0 The player that is better than WinAmp.

QCD has full support for most audio formats, includes crossfading, gapless CD Audio playback, a powerful batch tag editor, and excellent CDDBv2 integration.

QCD has a fully skinnable interface that covers a powerful plug-in architecture. QCD's flexibility allows it to be as simple or as feature rich as you like.

QCD is FREEware. It contains NO spyware, adware, or crippleware.

CD ripping, FREE MP3 encoding, mp3PRO support, and a bunch of enhancements to make your music playing days a little brighter.

Photocopier 2.26 - It turns your PC/scanner/printer into a copier, and it's free.

Another vote for Irfanview. I use it almost exclusively for my regular image editing.

AllSnap - AllSnap is a small system tray app that makes every window snap like they do in programs such as Winamp or Photoshop.

You do know BearShare has spyware imbedded into it, right?? It did last time I checked it out.

I dont know if anybody has posted this:

Kazaa One of the best file sharing systems Ive found lately...

-Kazaa has spyware, Morpheus is the same thing without the spyware.

When installing kazaa you can disable it....I read it wasn't the same in bearshare. Morpheus had bugs last time i tried it, it wouldnt search right, but kazaa worked fine.

Not sure if this was mentioned or not as I haven't read through the whole thing but Kazaa lite ( Kazaalite ) has no spyware and plenty of features that make it much better than kazaa or morpehus.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

mp3Gain - Lossless normalization of mp3 audio files.

The changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless. There is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding.

Brightness Controller - Free download.

I just made a very interesting discovery. One of the neat features of my NEC FP2141 22" aperture grille CRT is a free download called Brightness Controller. I just discovered to my surprise and delight that it also works with my new Planar PX191 LCD, and I presume with other monitors too. What it does is allow you to run your video applications (such as movies or TV from a TV card, etc.) at full brightness and at the same time have your other applications run at any brightness level you want. I like to turn up the brightness when watching video but have my applications dimmer, and it was just such a preference that Brightness Controller was created for. It's very easy to use. It creates an icon in your tray. You click it and either check a checkbox or uncheck it to enable or disable Brightness Controller. When enabled, you adjust a slider with your mouse to boost or diminish the brightness of your non-video applications. The brightness of the video applications remains the same.

You OWE it to yourself to try this utility !!!

Hey, people, there's no need to scroll through a thread to find things. Just click the icon at the top right to create a printable version of the thread and then search THAT. That way you avoid having to search each page of posts in the thread for an exhaustive search. IOW, Control+F (Find) in the printable version. This makes it a complete snap to find out if something has already been mentioned in a thread.

ieSpell

Man, what a time saver!! This Internet Explorer add-on applet is akin to the Spell check in MS Office, and many other Windows Applications. I use it every time, right after I'm done entering in text into the 'Message Text' box of the endless # of web forums I will write in. Before I found this program, I would have to first type my rant into MS-Word, then run the Grammar/Spell check function, and then cut>paste it into the forum reply field on that web site.

Of course its not as high-powered as whats available in the MS-Office suite, but it has a custom dictionary and does a good deal of the other MS-word features, so thats good enough for me. Now I don't have to have MS-Word open at the same time when I want to post stuff online.

Get the ieSpell program here. Its freeware. Can't get any better than that!

Check your POP emails in your system tray.
You can delete unwanted ones - so they never get to your actual e-mail client.
Plus if you have multiple email accounts you can color code the incoming messages.
