we remain unaffected. Israel's economy hasn't deterioted so far and in fact, has been growing tremendously in the past couple month.

I've completely ignored it. Nothing that I buy alot has gone up, I don't honestly give a shit what the economy is doing. Life has been the same for me since pretty much 9/11(01)

Know anybody at Bear Stearns?

Or someone who works in the housing sector?

i'm a student so I'm not affected. Plus I live in apartment just off campus so I don't even have to buy gas anymore.

Yes, but OP doesn't give a flying fuck about them. We're talking about you, yourself, and nobody else.

Personally my mutual funds are down about 10% but no biggy, and gaining less interest and paying more for goods. Nothing major though, and start a new job soon.

My company stock has been going down a little and now it's almost back up to what it used to be in back last november.

I try to conserve by not going out as much, but I think it's more psychological since all consumers are psychologically affected by it.

I guess it helps that I'm only 26 without family to support.

doesnt affect me.

still making oodles of $$$.
still seeing the newest movies on opening day (Fri noon) during my lunch "hour"

and to boot, i've just refinanced my mortgage for 4.99% FIXED, no fees.

financially, life is (still) good

recession? whats that?

Not sure.

I got fired recently. They said it was because of my lack of work ethic. But I dont agree with that at all.

Suspect it was because they wanted to get rid of some high priced salaries (I was making decent money) and I fixed machines instead of directly contributing to the production.

But they cant call it a layoff unless they get rid of tons of people at once. Also, they dont want to pay unemployment insurance, so they came up with some BS and tried to make me look bad.

In retrospect I should have sued for wrongful termination.

So yes, the economy has hurt me by getting me fired from a job nobody has been fired at in a LONG time.

For the most part, it's a good thing for me. I can buy more with my 401K and I don't have to worry about it for another 30 years.

Luckily it hasn't affected my work and my business is better than ever. But I'm fully conscious of the hardship others are facing and have cut back on my wasteful spending and am more careful with my overall spending. I knew this year would be very difficult and volatile so I planned accordingly in advance. Debt is killer in this kind of environment and makes you weak so I've eliminated debt. I paid off my house and am saving like mad to take advantage of coming opportunities in the housing and the stock market. Cash is definitely king in this environment and people with money will have tremendous investing opportunities created by the current housing and economic woes.

Financially I haven't been affected by it, but my roommate and owner of the hosue I rent a room in may have to sell his house. So I may have to find a new place to live which sucks ass.

Not really. I spent about an extra $25 a month on fuel because of it, plus groceries are a little more expensive.

I don't really care about how my index funds are doing because I'm not going to take money out anytime soon.

Isn't the dollar 3 NIS now as opposed to 4.5-5 NIS? My relatives in the West Bank that get paid in USD or JOD told me that they've noticed, their salaries basically went down.
