The Room is a cult classic mostly because it's such a bad movie. Made by someone who really knows nothing about how to make a film. It's a beautiful mess where truly nothing is quite right about it. Wisseau's acting is what really sets it apart due to his eurotrash appearance, bizarre accent, and poor grasp of the English language. A lot of legends surround the film. It was shot in both 35mm and HD because Wisseau didn't know the difference. He financed it selling (allegedly) counterfeit leather jackets from Korea. He shot all the sex scenes first.

Though admittedly it's not for everyone. I see it as this generation's Rocky Horror. The Rifftrax version makes it more accessible to first timers.
