Also found the ending scene for United 93, starts at about the 9 minute mark for the truly gut wrenching part. It is just wow. It is so powerful. In the theater when I watched it originally, there was stunned silence at the end along with the sound of people trying to stifle their outright sobbing.

Couldn't find a clip for the scene. Nights in Rodanthe, where Diane Lane gets the unexpected news. Then later, looks like a gutted shell who is barely even breathing due to the depression and grief. Not many actors or actresses can do grief like it really is.

Nothing holds a candle to the Futurama episode "Jurassic Bark." Probably the single saddest thing in all of human history. If you can watch that and not cry, you're probably a serial killer.

Those two are among the first that come to mind. I personally have little human empathy as well so most sad movies don't really get to me. As someone who had a dog pretty much since birth I don't really do well with dog death scenes like Marley and Me or when Will Smith has to kill his dog in I Am Legend.

Anthony Hopkins is asked the fate of his two "friends" he got lost in the Canadian wilderness with, and his decision of how to answer is a defining moment for him, and how they will be remembered by everyone. It's an interesting example of lying being an incredible kindness.

If you haven't seen the film, I highly recommend it.

And, I can't pick a single scene, but, about 1/2 of the scenes in the Apu Trillogy are among the saddest ever. Apu losing his father, Apu losing his sister, Apu losing his mother, Apu losing his wife, all tragic scenes. No, I know the worst scene. It's during when Apu blames losing his wife on his young son, and he completely neglects his son because of this. Holy fvck that trillogy is sad.
