So what are the kaleidescape systems like? I've been looking around at their website quite a bit. Is it basically like the ultimate HTPC with high reliability and failsafe features? They look to be just a wee bit out of my budget, just curious though

It really is awesome, but I cant explain it exactly. Its just done right without any problems. Its fast, reliable, cuts movies down to the actual movie if you dont feel like watching previews or menus on the spot. You'd just have to play with it to understand. Its also completely legal and licensed.

Saying that, I do believe it was overpriced. It does not yet have the capability to store Blu-Rays, but it can do 1080p all day long. I would have been happy building a frankenstein HTPC, but my wife loved it, and in it went.

Very impressive setup crab. That rack is awesome looking. Nice, neat and packed with high end gear. If you have Kaleidescape and Crestron integrated into your system, you went all out. Very nice indeed. Are those Salamander Alex chairs?

Yes, but most who sit in them dislike them because the back is so low. Its not that comfortable I guess. I think we're replacing them within the next year, so if anybody wants a set of those (obviously they work for other people), they're for sale.

I picked up a 12" KSW200 subwoofer last week. An audible improvement over the 10" KSW-10.

wtf is that? A Klipschorn? Pretty sweet.

I have two RW-10D subs in that theater room. They seem to do alright, but not spectacular.

To the right of the subwoofer? '86 La Scala, LS-BB.

TBH, Klipsch subs are not known for their spectacularity.

Those cables do look a little iffy, even by my standards

Really lazy method:
Cover them with some rugs for what's on the ground
Use twist-ties to bundle the cables behind the equipment rack

Congrats on the B&Ws! I used to have N805 then moved to 804s

Do you need them that wide? Seems very wide. If you check my pic in the first post, my speakers are spaced closer to the TV, but i found that this was the best placement for my room, different rooms will be different.

For my speaker cables, I just rolled them and tucked them behind the speakers, then just had the remaining length required to go straight to the amp by going underneath the TV stand.

My couch is 14 feet away, thats why i wanted to space them out as far as possible. I may move the couch closer...but yeah i'm gonna have to do some major cable hiding

My listening position is about 11.5' away from my 54" TV, my speakers are separated by about 6'. Oddly enough, my stereo image widened as I brought them towards each other to where they are now. I attribute this to bringing them away from the wall so that the wall reflection was lessened.

I set my speakers up basically according to Cardas's guidelines and it works well in my room.

I finally ditched my 25" CRT and got a Toshiba 32" 720p LCD (32AV502R). That also let me get rid of the VCR I was using for composite inputs and the DTV converter.

Now I need to work on getting a new tv stand.

Glad to see at least one other Athena fan here ^_^

 I got lucky and grabbed all mine before they started disappearing. I originally thought the dual 8" floorstanders would have enough bass for me but the upgradeitis kicked in. Still glad I went with them instead of bookshelves though.

You should post a pic of your Athenas if you have them.

I've found that angling the speakers towards the listener takes very fine steps and lots of experimentation. There will be a point were the vocals just "click" and the image is snap center for the vocal.

Ive found that for me, the speakers angled would "fire" at a point behind my head by a couple feet offers a nice snap-center vocal image. But, this has to do a lot with the dispersion of the tweeter (and closeness to the side wall). Since we have the same tweeters...

Also, bringing the speakers (as forward as possible given your living room arrangement) will deepen the soundstage because it reduces the magnitude of the reflection off of the TV screen or wall. It also helps for mid-bass response linearity.
