I would mount it on the right wall, the right of where the TV is now, invest in a wall mount. I would also just upgrade to a nice sub as of now, that is about the only weakness of the Onkyo HTIBs, but I like mine that came with the 7.1 system.

Actually, I am an electrical engineer and that is my first condo. The website is just one I manage as a favor and use for random small uploads since theres 100x more bandwidth available on it than in use.

Having your TV significantly off axis from both seating positions is less than ideal.

Yeah, I really didnt want to do this. The problem is I bought the couches like 6 months prior to moving and they are just huge compared to the room. The TV is actually tilted about 20 degrees towards the couches and has a really good viewing angle so I havent had any complaints. Course I am the biggest Videophile I know so only I get annoyed by such

Nothing wrong with that; I actually use a set of Logitech Z-5450's for my TV, because I don't want them on my PC. The PC's in my bedroom which on the other side of the wall is another apartment's bedroom. So out of courtesy for them (as I can be a bit of a night owl sometimes), I decided not to use them on the PC anymore. The living room isn't too big that I need huge speakers though, so it's alright.

Here's what I have:

Samsung 46" DLP

XBOX 360 (connected via component)
-HD-DVD Drive

File/Media Server (connected via VGA)
-Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
-2GB (2x1GB) of OCZ DDR2 PC6400 Platinum
-Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 motherboard
-eVGA e-GeForce 7600GS (my old 6800GT died )
-1x WD Raptor 74GB
-2x Seagate 7200.10 750GB HDD
-1x WD 750GB HDD
-Logitech Cordless MX Duo
-ATi TV Wonder Pro

Logitech Z-5450 5.1 DD/DTS

Philips HD antenna (connected via coax)

People always find it amazing that I have a PC hooked up to my TV . I guess we're just a "weird breed" then or something. I'll post pictures later (if I remember... I think I have some on my site, I just forget the URL).

Replaced the ProMedia center with a Klipsch RC-25. Amazing front soundstage now! I'll break 'em in for a few weeks then tweak some more.

I'm surprised I have yet to see one HT which has really impressed me. Does anyone believe in clean wiring anymore?

clean wiring doesnt improve the sound quality, so why bother

Actually, many of us are in temporary apartments / college dorms, so there isn't much freedom to take great care in the wiring (in terms of making it all neat and in-wall).

Or, maybe we are those select few ATers that dont make over 150k$ per year in salary

this is the living room of my dorm:
front wall
rear wall 1 right rear speaker and seating
rear wall 2 with view of second rear speaker and view into kitchen
couch and matching chair are university property, and not the most comfortable unless you plan on sitting up the entire time. those hard wood ends suck hardcore.
computer desk
that's my half of the one dorm unit, showing my logitech z5500s. (and since raised the monitor using 2 old books)

lol do I have to answer this?
they are Streem speakers, sadly what are likely a modern version of white-van merchandise. They are no B&W or Paradigm speakers, but I think they have a decent sound to them. Kind of weak towers but meh. I was kind of young when I got the 5 speaker set, and wouldn't have purchased them knowing more like I do now, and would have saved up a little more to get a Klipsch set or something. But whatever, live and learn. They do the trick.

Edit: Decided in hindsight that this wouldn't contribute positively to the thread. To sum it up: I find the dichotomy between the furniture and the HT equipment weird.

in regards to my setup?
i don't care. it's my dorm room, i'll only live here about 3/4 of the year, and have to bring everything back. like i said, it's university furniture.

peoples priorities then. it is entertaining to see all this nice equipment in a room that otherwise would never look like a home theater. but you don't get to see those nice custom home theaters that are paraded in home theater mags and websites and at specialty stores. if only...
that's my goal, but will be a LONG time before I can afford all of that.

What would be a better choice of furniture for the HT equipment? I change apartments every year so thats the reason why I don't own any bulky furniture. I actually don't really have an eye for what furniture would be fitting. I do have a basic understanding of what helps to make the system sound good, so that's where I have put the funds into. High back leather chairs lead to a cupping effect on the ears which negatively affects imaging, so those are out... I live by myself, so there is no need for a sofa... Any ideas?
