The condor chick I posted the live nest cam for above was found dead on September 30th, two weeks after it fledged. A necropsy will be performed to determine cause of death.

Regular deworming is important since it seems dogs can acquire the parasite infection over and over again.
I always wondered if an infant can get infected with Toxocara canis this way. And it can. But also by ingesting foreign materials from the outside world.

One thing tho, if someone just looks wrong in the direction of that baby, that dog will protect the baby with his life.

Well picking up the infection from a dog is incredibly rare.
Also, the whole dog protecting the baby thing, that all depends on the genetics and lineage of that dog. The classic breed is actually a horrible guard dog, they tend to love all people and may not defend the owners all that effectively if at all. But with so many bad breeding practices, it can be tough to predict whether they will be overly defensive and aggressive toward other humans. Generally most dogs will protect small children they live alongside but not always.
