Post upgrade: dead computer - please help

Was running an Duron 850 mhz on a Micro-star K7T Turbo (MS-6330).

I bought a 1.4 Athalon T-Bird from a reputable source.

The guy I bought the t-bird from suggested that I reset my CMOS and use some Artic Silver. I did both.

Installed the chip. Got nothing.

Re-installed my old chip, still got nothing.

I can't seem to get my computer to power up. Can't even get the diagnostic LEDs on my board to tell me that my chip is installed properly.

Is there a way to check if the power supply is functioning properly (sorry).

I built this computer myself with help from this forum and have done one other upgrade. But that is the extent of my hardware experience.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Check all cable connections, memory chip retention clips, etc. It's real esy to knock something loose while fumbling around inside a case.

Will try that, but shouldn't I at least get a 'beep' when I start up?

I've gotten it, as I recall, with AGP card not deeply seated, hardware conflict between a NIC and video card, and Power Good cable (on ATX MB) disconnected - no life at atll. Also check switch on back of power supply, and try unplugging the power supply and replugging it. If you short two of the wires in the PS connector the PS fan should run - but I forget offhand which ones they are..

Try booting outside of the case. The motherboard could be shorting out on something possibly. Don't have any network cards, sound cards, etc. installed either.

After some fiddling, I got it to work. Unfortunately, I can't say I know exactly how I got it to work.
