I don't really understand why TEC-9s are illegal. They aren't sold as full auto.

I don't really understand why TEC-9s are illegal. They aren't sold as full auto.

Forward grip on a pistol is a no-no. If you want to add a forward grip to one it's a $200 tax stamp and a few month wait for the paperwork.

If it is already registered as an AOW (All Other Weapons) you can get them transferred for a $5 stamp and same few month wait.

These rules make no sense to me. Yes, nobody needs a .50 caliber machine gun for hunting or defending their home and person, so banning them is understandable. But a forward grip on a pistol? Who cares? Yes, then you can handle recoil better if you mod it for full auto. So the person who is going to break the law by modifying it to full auto and using it as a street sweeper will have to break one more law to add a forward grip. I'm pretty sure that isn't going to stop their rampage or even lower the body count.

I think some states don't allow more than 10 rd. mags in anything, so maybe that is what he means?

Importation of non-sporting firearms was banned a while back (1989 IIRC). The SKS is classified as sporting by the ATF. Once you add particular features it no longer becomes sporting and must conform to Section 922(r). Depending on how many parts the rifle has, it has to have so many US made parts.

Putting on a detachable or 30 round magazine makes the rifle non-sporting and subject to 922(r). Same for a folding or collapsable stock and other things.

The easiest way to make it compliant would be a US made stock, US made magazine/follower/floorplate, US made flash suppressor or muzzle brake, and/or US made gas piston or fire control group.

By the time you make it compliant it's over double the cost of the original rifle.
